Mrs. English’s 7th graders conducted a lab about heating and cooling of air using plastic bottles, balloons, hot water and ice water. With those materials, they created a model of what happens and typed in their conclusions on our Science website.

Next Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct 10th and 11th are picture days for all students. Please read the below attachment to determine which day your student will go down with their social studies teacher. The district is asking that ALL students have their picture taken this year. Also attached is a flyer from T&F Camera about how to purchase pictures. Students in Ms. Super’s 6th and 7th grade language arts classes read an informational article about Sgt. Dominick Pilla and discussed the characteristics of what makes a hero. They made a character web with Sgt. Pilla’s name in the middle and came up with internal character traits to describe him.

If you or your child filled out the Activity Sign Up Form, the advisor should be reaching out shortly via email with the permission/bus form which must be filled out before your student can stay. However be advised that not all activities start right away. Students in Mrs. Caporale's 6th-grade math classes worked in groups to complete an activity matching ratio word problems to their solutions. When they completed the activity, the solutions spelled responsibility, one of the six competencies of a portrait of a graduate. Students then formed a restorative circle to talk about this competency and what it means. Students discussed how they can show responsibility in the classroom, at home, and in the world. Students mentioned completing assignments by the due date, coming to school, being on time, taking care of school property, being prepared for class, doing chores at home, cleaning up after themselves, and more.
In Ms. LaMarras and Mrs. Harolds class students have been learning about atoms in Science. Students participated in a lab in which they found the connection between positive and negative charges. Students found that when you rub the balloon on your hair, the balloon picks up the electrons from the hair and the atoms of the balloon become negatively charged. The positively charged atoms in the paper were attracted to those negatively charged atoms of the balloon and when they got close enough to each other they jumped. The attraction between the negatively and positively charged atoms was so great that it overcame the force of gravity and the paper circles jumped up to the balloon.
The Pilla School Youth To Youth/Just Say No Club is sponsoring a Fall Fun Day on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023, from 3:05-5:00 p.m. for all Pilla School students. Tickets are $3 and must be bought during Homeroom on Friday 9/29,Monday 10/2 and Tuesday 10/3**. Ticket sales will take place in the cafeteria. No tickets will be sold at the door. Please join us for an afternoon of fun-filled activities, including outside activities. Your ticket includes admission and activities. Refreshments will be sold **Must have a signed permission slip and not be on the restriction list to buy a ticket.
Pilla students: Are you interested in making Pilla School a better place? We are looking for Homeroom Representatives to share ideas, concerns and suggestions about how we can improve our school. Students will have a chance to meet with administration on a monthly basis. Please see your homeroom teacher before next Friday, Oct 6th if you are interested.
