Dallago Preschool celebrated Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on Thursday, January 9th by welcoming officers from the Vineland Police Department into their classrooms. Officers walked around to all classrooms at Dallago East and West to greet & interact with students during their normal daily routine. Bringing community helpers into school with our youngest learners lets students see that those individuals are around to help keep us safe and happy. The smiles on everyone’s faces show that this visit was well received by all involved. Thank you to the Vineland Police Department not only for having officers come out and visit our preschool, but also for the wonderful coloring books, crayons, erasers, bracelets, stickers, and flashlights that the students were able to bring home. What a positive day!

Winslow 3rd graders in Ms. Latorre and Mrs. Simonini’s class have been learning about collecting data and creating graphs in Math. They took a class survey of each other’s favorite seasons. Students used the data in individual tally charts and worked in groups to create graphs to display their data. The results included; horizontal bar graphs, vertical bar graphs, picture graphs and line plots. Each group was also responsible for coming up with word problems that accurately represented the data for the rest of the class to solve.

This week, in Mrs. Fiocchi's classroom at Durand Elementary School, we worked on a New Year’s Vision Bottle Project. The bottle contains students’ plans for the future, their dreams, and their goals. It also holds some symbols that are meant to be reminders of important behaviors to focus on now and in the future. We read aloud the meaning of these symbols and then dropped them into the bottles. For example, the bell was used to remind them to make sure their voice is heard and also to be a voice for others when they are in need. A googly eye was used to remind students to focus and keep an “eye’ on their goals. A penny was used as a reminder that everything starts out small, but with hard work, it can grow over time. Students then dropped a gemstone of their choice into their bottle to remind them that they are unique and special. Lastly, students sealed their vision bottles. They will open them in them the future and have a glimpse of what their thoughts and dreams were when they were in the 4th grade. Way to go 4th grade! 👏🏻🫶🏻💕

On Tuesday, in room 5 at DiBiase Preschool, the students talked about what they did on their snow day, what they can make with snow, how snow feels, and what it does when it melts. Miss Shaline put some snow in the water table at work time so the children could continue their exploration of snow! ❄️☃️

Each year, D'Ippolito Elementary School families are incredibly fortunate to receive generous donations of Complete Turkey Dinners from Aliano Brothers General Contractors, Inc., right here in Vineland. This year, they went above and beyond, donating 240 dinners to our schools for Thanksgiving and the December holidays. Adding to the holiday cheer, Bottino's Delsea ShopRite on Landis Avenue in Vineland contributed over 200 freshly baked pies and more than 200 cans of whipped cream to complete the meals. A huge thank you goes to Ms. Ashley Parkerson, Office Manager at Aliano Brothers; Mr. Jim Davies, Assistant Store Manager at Delsea ShopRite; and Mrs. Anthony, Health & Social Service Coordinator at D’Ippolito Elementary School. They worked together seamlessly to ensure a smooth pickup and delivery process for all our families. We also want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of the Health and Social Service Coordinators from the following schools: Durand, Mennies, Petway, Sabater, Winslow, Barse (with counselor Mrs. Newcomb), Pilla, Memorial, Delago/Johnstone Preschool, Wallace, and VHS. Their dedication in contacting families in need and coordinating the distribution of these holiday dinner baskets is truly commendable. We are deeply grateful for the support and generosity shown by Aliano Brothers and ShopRite. Thanks to them, so many families were able to enjoy a warm, festive holiday meal. We can’t wait to partner with them again next year to continue making a difference in our community!

Students in Mrs. DeLouise’s sixth-grade math classes at Veterans Memorial created juice boxes as part of a percent lesson. They chose five fruits to make their imaginary juice and then calculated the percentages of waste and remaining juice. Students created juice boxes with catchy product names. Creativity played a crucial role in making their juice stand out and helped them understand the importance of branding in a competitive market. Finally, students computed production cost and profit. Students were surprised that their choice of particular fruits would change the overall cost and the profit margin. They discussed the importance of understanding percentages and how they apply to everyday life. They concluded that it is important to use percentages to make decisions and solve problems.

The fourth graders at Petway Elementary School hosted a collaborative holiday project that included their parents! Students in Mrs. Bond and Mrs. Scarpa's classes worked to design and create gingerbread houses, while students in Mrs. Sterchele and Mrs. Smith's classes designed gumdrop bridges. These activities aimed to foster creativity, teamwork, and parent-student engagement while celebrating the festive season and practicing their math skills. The students with their parents created word problems that reflected the designs of their bridges and gingerbread houses. They also created a bar graph that displayed the amount of materials used to create their designs. The results were fantastic, with each group showcasing unique and imaginative designs! The students were thrilled to share this experience with their parents, making it a memorable event for all involved.
