Ms. Cruz’s class had a wonderful time honoring our veterans! Students worked hard decorating posters and postcards to show their gratitude and appreciation for those who have served our country, including, Sgt. Dominick Pilla, whom our school is named after. 🇺🇸

Spotlight on Ms. Super’s Period 8/9 Class!

After completing testing, students took their narrative writing skills to the next level by crafting original suspenseful stories! 📖💡

They planned their plots with story charts, incorporated dialogue, figurative language, and rich vocabulary, and then set the scene perfectly—sharing their stories on October 31st in a dimly lit classroom to match the mysterious mood. 🕯️👻

Students even used rubrics to evaluate their peers’ writing and support one another on the path to excellence. What a creative and collaborative way to bring learning to life! 🌟

Ms. Cruz's 7th-grade classes held a Mock Trial as part of their Suspense Unit, focusing on Edgar Allan Poe's narrator (who was named Mr. Allen for the trial) in "The Tell-Tale Heart." The students analyzed the story, learned about the Insanity defense, and researched trial procedures based on their assigned roles. They prepared opening and closing statements, asked insightful questions, and conducted the trial according to the law when determining the verdict and sentencing. They followed courtroom rules and behaved professionally.

Students in Miss Welden and Ms. Franco's 8th grade ELA classes are composing suspenseful narratives with the guidance of the Writing Trait rubric. Students analyzed the stories The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to learn the author's purpose for incorporating imagery and suspense strategies in writing. The students planned their story on the plot diagram and will draft, revise, edit, publish and present their final stories to the class.
