Sonia Rivera, World Language Teacher, and Meghan Greenfield, 7th Grade Math Teacher at Johnstone School, collaborated to create Equivalent Ratio posters with their 7th-grade classes. Ms. Rivera started students off with a ratio written in Spanish that they had to convert into numerical form. Students then had to write an equivalent ratio and translate it into Spanish on their own. Students had to show mathematically how they got their equivalent ratio as well. This ties ratio and proportions math standards in both 6th and 7th grade to learning numbers 1 to 1000 in the World Language standards. The students were then able to decorate their posters for display in the hallways of the school.

Students in Mrs. Evans's 7th grade classes at Wallace Middle School investigated changes in density due to the heating and cooling of gases. Students used a convection box to observe what happens to the air (smoke) when part of the box is heated and there is cooler air on the other side.

On September 19, Dallago Preschool held its first parent workshop of the year. A yearly assessment is conducted to identify the needs and concerns of our preschool families. After the data was analyzed, monthly workshops were created to support the challenges facing parents in our preschool community. Facilitated by Brandi Gatier, the Community Parent Involvement Specialist for the Vineland Preschool Program, the first workshop focused on the importance of routines and schedules. Over 30 participants attended the workshop both in person and virtually. The workshop was held in English and was translated into Spanish by Matty Romano, Bilingual Preschool Instructional Coach. Parents willingly shared their challenges which fostered a wonderful discussion about day-to-day routines and schedules such as before-school, after-school, and bedtime routines. Families were provided with samples of visual schedules that they can make at home, as well as given strategies to help orchestrate smoother daily transitions with their children. The next parent workshop will be held on October 25th and the topic will be Emotions.

On September 15th, Winslow students and staff celebrated Dot Day, organized by Winslow Art Teacher, Mrs. Rehm. Each student completed their own color experiment with paint sticks by starting with a dot. They made dashes and dabs of color around the dots, just like the famous Artist Alma Thomas. Each class also collaborated on a larger-scale painting. The students voted on the center color and then took turns adding rings of color, and the entire paper was full. Students and staff also dressed up in their best dot attire!

At Rossi Elementary School, Tuesday was a day of apple-filled excitement as students and staff united in celebration of Johnny Appleseed Day. The first-grade team conducted an experiment using apples and different liquids to see if they would float and if they would brown. The mini-scientists worked together to make observations and had a great time! The students in Mrs. Bermudez's 3rd-grade class had an apple-tastic time learning and celebrating the legend Johnny "Appleseed" Chapman. Students learned all about Johnny Appleseed by reading different biographies. They were able to separate the truths from the myths about Johnny Appleseed, took a virtual field trip to an apple orchard, and of course enjoyed some delicious apple treats! A-15 had a great day celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day! The students learned a little about Johnny Appleseed, visited a virtual apple orchard, and then explored different foods that contain apples.  At the end of the day, most students said, “They tried something new and liked it!”
