Mennies School hosted its lively and well-attended annual Family Game Night on January 22nd, bringing students and their families together for an evening of fun and connection. Sponsored by the Vineland Education Association through a Public Education Partnership (PEP) grant, the event was a packed house from start to finish.

Families enjoyed quality time playing classic games such as Jenga, Scrabble, Uno, Connect Four, Twister, and working together on puzzles. The evening also included pizza from Pizza Queen, along with chips, water, and cookies, which added to the festive atmosphere.

Family Game Night was a wonderful change of pace for students and their families, offering a chance to unplug, laugh, and spend meaningful time together in a welcoming school setting. Events like these continue to strengthen the bond between our school, the VEA and the Mennies community.

All Vineland Public Schools, including preschools and private provider preschools, will open two hours late on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, because of inclement weather.

Staff will report on a 90-minute delay. Parents are reminded that because of the delayed opening, they may NOT drop off their children at school early. Staff may not be available to admit them to the building. No breakfast will be provided on delayed openings. Lunch will be served as normal. Before and After school providers will follow the same delays as students. Students attending schools outside Vineland Public Schools, including CCTEC, charter schools, and non-public schools, will follow their school’s schedule.

As we recover from snowfall, the City of Vineland and the Vineland Public School District kindly ask residents to help keep our community safe by shoveling sidewalks and nearby bus stops, if possible. Clear walkways help ensure our students can travel to and from school safely. Thank you for looking out for our children and supporting our community.

The Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society is thrilled to host an amazing movie event on SUNDAY, APRIL 12, 2026, at the beautiful and historic Landis Theater.

Last week in Social Studies, Mrs. Leone’s class at Mennies Elementary School learned about Martin Luther King Jr. We had many conversations about kindness, belonging, and using our words when we are upset (focusing on nonviolence). The class had many meaningful conversations about how to use words when something is unfair and about being kind every day, even when we have different opinions. The students learned and grew so much just by sharing their ideas with one another.
One activity that they enjoyed was creating digital pictures on the smart board, printing them, and creating journal entries about MLK’s message in his “I Have a Dream” speech.

Petway third grade students in Mrs. Nonnemacher’s class are diving into Because of Winn-Dixie by exploring the idea of “tasting the melancholy,” inspired by Miss Franny’s littmus lozenges. As they read, students are making meaningful connections to the characters and their emotions by sharing their own stories and discussing whether they, too, can “taste” the melancholy. Students are also reflecting on their own mistakes by creating a classroom Mistake Tree, modeled after Gloria Dump’s ghost tree. Through these activities, students are learning how characters’ experiences and choices influence events in this realistic fiction story, while building empathy, reflection, and understanding.
