This week Dallago’s favorite musician & singer, Yosi, came in for a multicultural performance! Students were not only able to just sing and dance along - this time they also were able to view and listen to different instruments from around the world! Instruments were from countries including Africa, Australia, India, Egypt, & more! We learned how to say hello in many languages and closed out each assembly with a “friends around the world” song. After holding 3 assemblies in the gym he went and held a sensory-friendly performance in one of our classrooms. Thank you to Yosi for always being so friendly, welcoming, and accepting!

Our kindergarten writers in Mrs. Brown’s class at Mennies had a blast exploring writing topics this week! The lesson began with students learning about all the topics their teacher enjoys writing about. Then, they worked in groups to discuss the topics they love and could write about. To keep the inspiration flowing, students created writing maps to store in their writing folders. These maps will be a helpful tool when they encounter writer’s block and need ideas. The students were so excited to start writing about their favorite topics—what a great way to spark creativity and enthusiasm for writing!

Wallace sixth-grade Language Arts teachers, Mrs. Priest and Mrs. Shapley, are teaching a weather unit, so they invited Nor’Easter Nick to come and speak to their students. On January 22, Nick spoke to them not only about weather, weather forecasting, and the company that he created, Norcast Weather, but also about overcoming obstacles and challenges in life. The students enjoyed asking him questions at the end. Thanks for everything, Nor’Easter Nick!

Students in Ms. Reese’s 4th-grade class at Mennies Elementary School had a fantastic time exploring the concept of area! Working in small groups with Ms. Reese, students engaged in hands-on learning to deepen their understanding. Around the room, students utilized flexible seating while working independently, with a partner, or in small groups. Math games added an extra layer of fun, making review sessions both engaging and effective. Great job, Ms. Reese and students, for making math both meaningful and enjoyable!

This December, the Rossi Elementary Safety Patrol organized a successful service project: Soft Socks for Seniors. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we collected over 250 pairs of soft socks to benefit the senior residents of Vineland. These socks will provide warmth and comfort during the colder months, reminding our seniors that they are cared for and appreciated. We are proud of our Safety Patrol team for their leadership and grateful to everyone who contributed to this effort. Together, we’ve made a meaningful impact in our community. Thank you for your support!

Vineland Public Schools held the second Community Partnership Action Committee (CPAC) meeting of the school year on Tuesday, continuing a tradition of collaboration now in its fourth year. Superintendent Alfonso Llano began this initiative to build strong connections between local schools and organizations that benefit students and families. Over 50 organization members and school leaders attended the meeting, which this year focuses on family engagement. Following lunch by Sodexo, the district’s food service provider, the meeting began with a warm welcome from Ismael Bermudez, Director of Special Projects and Operations. Suzette DeMarchi, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, revisited the school partnership activity from the previous meeting. She highlighted how schools were able to connect with community organizations to address specific needs, allowing time for discussions on collaboration and showcasing examples of partnerships already underway. Gia Messore, Public Information Officer, provided an overview of the Vineland Education Foundation (VEF), a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the educational experience for Vineland Public Schools students by funding programs and initiatives that supplement traditional school budgets. Messore also announced the VEF’s first fundraiser, a Family Pasta Night, which will take place on January 29 at 5:00 PM at the Landis Administrative Offices. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by contacting gmessore@vineland.org. Lianne Fanucci then spoke on behalf of Vineland Code Blue, a non-profit organization that has been serving the community for over a decade by providing a warming center for the homeless when overnight temperatures drop to 32°F or below, from November 1 through April 15. She emphasized that the organization is entirely volunteer-driven and relies on the community’s support to assist those in need. More information can be found at https://www.vinelandnjcodeblue.com/. Finally, Teri Godlewski, Executive Director of Student Services, discussed the Vineland High School RISE (Reaching Independence through Structured Experiences) program, which supports students aged 18-21 with diverse learning needs by easing their transition into supported work environments in a safe, secure, and monitored setting. The next meeting will take place on March 18.
