Vineland Public Schools is proud to announce that it has been selected by the New Jersey Department of Education as a recipient of the 2025-2026 Lighthouse Award for Diversifying the Teacher Workforce.

This recognition is especially meaningful because it is not based solely on test scores or academic rankings, and it is not an award for which districts apply. Instead, the New Jersey Department of Education reviewed multiple years of data from 590 school districts across the state and identified those that demonstrated measurable progress in advancing equitable outcomes for students.

Vineland Public Schools was the only district in New Jersey recognized in the category of Diversifying the Teacher Workforce.

As a district serving more than 10,000 students from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and cultures, we are honored to be recognized for our purposeful and meaningful progress in recruiting and retaining a diverse group of educators and creating homegrown pathways into the teaching profession.

This award reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring that all students have access to opportunities, support, and role models who reflect the rich diversity of our school community. We thank our educators, staff, and community partners whose dedication made this recognition possible.

Gabrielle Hunter was recognized as one of 13 finalists selected to participate in the design competition for the Vineland High School Warehouse truck. From the beginning of the project, Gabrielle stood out for her creativity, work ethic, and thoughtful approach to design. She took great pride in creating something that truly represented Vineland High School and the community around it.

Out of all the finalist submissions, Gabrielle’s design was chosen to be professionally printed on the Vineland High School Warehouse truck. Seeing her artwork brought to life on such a large scale was an incredible accomplishment and a proud moment for both Gabby and the Graphic Design program. Her design will now travel throughout the district and community, serving as a lasting example of student creativity and talent.

Following the truck reveal, Gabby attended the event at Dr. William Mennies School where she spoke to students about her experience and creative process. She shared how her ideas developed from rough sketches into a final design, explaining the hard work, revisions, and problem-solving that went into creating the finished piece. Gabby spoke honestly about the importance of being creative, taking feedback, and believing in your ideas, helping younger students see that design is more than just making something look good — it is about telling a story and connecting with people.

Gabby represented Vineland High School with professionalism, confidence, and humility throughout the entire experience. Watching her speak to younger students and share her passion for graphic design was a proud moment, and her accomplishment reflects not only her artistic talent, but also the positive example she sets for others.

On May 28, 2026, Mrs. Loraine Griffiths’ Graphic Design 3 students participated in an exciting real-world branding experience centered around reimagining the identity of Wawa. Students were challenged to create original rebranding concepts that included redesigned logos, updated color palettes, typography selections, and marketing ideas that reflected a fresh vision for the company while still maintaining Wawa’s recognizable values and community-centered identity.

To enhance the experience, Jason Reed visited Vineland High School to review student work and hear their professional-style brand pitches. During the presentations, students explained how they developed their concepts, discussed the inspiration behind their designs, and walked through the creative decisions that shaped their final branding solutions.

Joining Mrs. Griffiths and her students for the presentations were Principal Justin Adams, Vice Principal Mr. Hall, and Supervisor of Science, CTE & Instructional Technology Katherine Rivera, who all attended to support the students and witness the incredible creativity and professionalism displayed throughout the event.

This visit provided students with an invaluable opportunity to experience how brand pitches function within the graphic design industry. Presenting to a real industry professional allowed students to practice professional communication, defend their design choices, and gain insight into the expectations of client-based creative work. The experience successfully connected classroom learning to real-world design careers while building student confidence and presentation skills.

This school year, Ms. Pilla's and Ms. Bronson's class at Petway Elementary School became plant scientists and gardeners! In September, students learned about plant propagation and each propagated their own pothos plant. Throughout the year, they studied what plants need to grow and took responsibility for caring for them by adding water and soil and making sure they received enough sunlight. After months of patience and attention, the plants grew into healthy, thriving pothos. Just in time for Mother’s Day, students proudly brought their flourishing plants home to share with their families.

Students at Vineland High School were rewarded for their outstanding efforts during the third marking period with an unforgettable celebration at Rowdy’s Birthday Party. Red Card holders earned the opportunity to attend the special event as recognition for their hard work, dedication, and continued success throughout the school year.

The celebration honored students who demonstrated academic achievement, maintained excellent attendance, and displayed positive behavior with no conduct issues. These students exemplify the standards and expectations of the PBSIS program and continue to serve as positive role models within the school community.

Our beloved school mascot, Rowdy, was thrilled to see so many deserving students come together to celebrate his big day. The event featured a delicious BBQ-style buffet along with an exciting field day packed with games, activities, laughter, and school spirit. Students enjoyed spending time with friends while celebrating the accomplishments they worked so hard to achieve throughout the marking period.

Most importantly, the students represented themselves and Vineland High School with pride through their outstanding behavior and positive attitudes during the event. The energy, excitement, and sense of community made Rowdy’s Birthday Party a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Without a doubt, this year’s celebration will go down as a legendary event that students will remember for years to come.

Students in Ms. Schwan’s class at Mennies Elementary School are learning about natural disasters through hands-on activities and experiments. As part of the lesson, students created structures using marshmallows and toothpicks to explore engineering and stability.

Afterwards, they simulated earthquake motion by placing four marbles between two books tied together with rubber bands and setting their structures on top. The books were then shaken back and forth to recreate earthquake movement, and most of the student-built structures stayed together.

It was a fun and engaging way for students to combine science, creativity, and problem-solving while learning how structures can withstand the forces of nature.
