Hurricane Melissa caused devastating damage in many areas, including Jamaica. Wanting to make a difference, the students and staff at Wallace Middle School came together to help those in need.
As a school community, we collected food, clothing, supplies, and monetary donations to support relief efforts. These items will be donated to the City of Vineland and the Vineland First Wesleyan Church. Pastor Basil Watson and his team are working hard to provide help and support to families affected by the storm.

We are so proud of our Wallace Middle School students and staff for showing kindness, generosity, and teamwork to help others during this difficult time!

A spooky and spectacular day was had by all this Halloween in Mrs. Nonnemacher’s class at Petway! 🎃 Students explored the question, “What makes a pumpkin sick?” Using their science skills, they hypothesized how different ingredients could combine to create a chemical reaction that produced carbon dioxide — also known as the “sick pumpkin” effect! The class had a blast observing the bubbling, fizzing fun of their science experiment!

Dayohn Denny, a courageous VHS student who battled cancer, had his lifelong dream of meeting the Philadelphia Eagles come true through the Make-A-Wish Foundation with help from the Philadelphia Eagles. Dayohn was allowed to bring 2 guests, and he chose to bring his mother and his teacher, Jennifer Curcuru. On October 26, Dayohn, his mother, and Jennifer attended the Eagles’ home game against the New York Giants.
From the moment he arrived, Dayohn received VIP treatment. He got exclusive field and tunnel access, where he met players, watched both individual and team warmups up close, and was given his own custom Eagles jersey and a football signed by players who took time to talk with him about his dreams of playing in the NFL.
Dayohn also took part in the opening ceremonies, standing on the field during player introductions and the national anthem. He even had the unforgettable honor of waving the Eagles flag to fire up the crowd and trying on a Super Bowl ring.
During the game, Dayohn enjoyed amazing seats as he watched the Eagles defeat the Giants 38–20. Go Birds! After the game, he was treated to a private meet-and-greet with Saquon Barkley in the Lincoln Lounge, where Barkley and his family spent time with Dayohn, signed his football, and gave him a signed jersey.
After the whole experience, Dayohn said “I am very inspired by the players and their stories which gives me motivation and drive to pursue my own football dreams.” The experience, made possible by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Eagles organization, was truly unforgettable. They went above and beyond to make Dayohn’s day extraordinary — celebrating his strength, his love for football, and his inspiring spirit.

On Wednesday, Mrs. White, Mrs. Renee, and Mrs. Danielle’s class at Petway Elementary School had an exciting Pumpkin Investigation 🎃

Students explored pumpkins up close and made some fun discoveries. They talked about what pumpkins look and feel like, and even looked inside! The children described how the inside felt slimy and even noticed that the seeds were slippery. They also observed that the pumpkin's color was bright orange on the outside and a lighter orange inside. Everyone had a wonderful time exploring and learning through this fall-themed science activity.

Takye Ledbetter, an 8th-grade student in Miss Welden and Ms. Franco's ELA class at Pilla, wrote and published a short suspense story called "The Girl In My House." After reading and analyzing stories written by Edgar Allan Poe, Takye was inspired by the use of suspense strategies and descriptive language employed by Poe, which helped him create his own unique tales. Takye recently produced and acted out another short story for his classmates during ELA.
We are so Pilla Proud of Takye!

The teachers and students at D'Ippolito Elementary School are holding our ninth annual Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive to benefit children. We are collecting from our students and families, and we are trying to reach out to the community to get more pajama donations to help kids in need. Anyone who would like to donate may mail new pajamas to D'Ippolito Elementary School, 1578 N. Valley Ave., Vineland, NJ 08361. We greatly appreciate any and all donations!

Our drive will run from Monday, November 3rd, through Friday, December 5th. Only brand new pajamas will be collected in all sizes from newborn through adult. The pajama drive is organized in partnership with Pajama Program, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting a comforting bedtime routine for children affected by instability in order to help them thrive. Once our donations are reported to Scholastic, they will pair each set of pajamas collected with a new book, and through The Pajama Program, will be donated to a local organization. Last year, 206 sets of pajamas went to Williamstown Head Start, located at 245 Glassboro Road in Williamstown.

D'Ippolito students who donate a new pair of pajamas will be able to wear their own pjs to school on Tuesday, December 23rd, as a reward for their generous gifts.

In honor of Fire Safety Month, kindergarten classes at Mennies Elementary School spent the week learning all about how to prevent fires and stay safe in an emergency.

Students created informational flipbooks illustrating what can cause fires and how to stay safe at home and school. They also made their very own fire truck crafts, complete with bright red engines and ladders — a fun way to connect creativity with real-world learning and even practiced stop, drop, & roll!

The highlight of the week was a special visit from the Vineland Fire Department. 🚒 Firefighters talked with students about the importance of fire safety, explained how their equipment works, and showed off their impressive red ladder truck. The children loved getting an up-close look and asking questions about what firefighters do to keep our community safe.

We are so grateful to the Vineland Fire Department for taking the time to visit and inspire our students. Thank you for helping our kindergartners learn to be brave, prepared, and fire safe! ❤️👩‍🚒👨‍🚒
