Members of the Vineland community and school district administrative staff visited Petway Elementary School this week as guest readers in celebration of Read Across America. The visit coincided with the school’s Crazy Hair Day, adding an extra layer of fun and excitement as students celebrated the joy of reading.
Guests included representatives from the Vineland Police Department, EMS, the Fire Department, and other local partners, who spent time in classrooms sharing stories with students. The combination of creative hairstyles and special guest readers created a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout the school.
The event provided a special opportunity for students to enjoy stories with visiting guests while taking part in a schoolwide celebration of reading. It was a fun and meaningful experience that helped bring together the school and the greater Vineland community.

Students from Vineland High School’s National Honor Society visited Durand Elementary School this week, as guest readers in celebration of Read Across America. This year, Durand’s Read Across America activities featured a mystery theme, adding an extra layer of fun and engagement for the elementary students.
In addition to reading with classes, the high school students answered questions and shared advice about what elementary students can expect as they move on to middle school and eventually high school. They also talked about the many opportunities available in the years ahead, including clubs, activities, athletics and academic programs.
It was a great and educational experience for everyone involved, and a wonderful opportunity for younger students to connect with older peers while celebrating the joy of reading.

This event will showcase resources available for children from birth through age 21+ who have emotional or behavioral needs, intellectual or developmental disabilities, and/or substance use issues in Cumberland County.

On Thursday, February 26th, Memorial Middle School proudly hosted its annual Multicultural Night, bringing together students, families, and staff for an evening of music, food, and cultural celebration. Attendees “traveled” to nine different countries from around the world, exploring traditions, learning about unique customs, and sampling authentic cuisine at each stop. In addition to the hands-on experiences, families had the opportunity to use the school’s VR goggles to take virtual trips to each country, allowing them to feel as though they were truly transported across the globe.

The Interact Club of Vineland High School proudly visited Rossi and Barse Elementary Schools to participate in their Read Across America celebrations this past week as guest readers. Our Interactors became “book buddies” with students in kindergarten through fifth grade and truly enjoyed every moment spent sharing stories and fostering a love of reading.

For the past two weeks, the Vineland Board of Education by way of their Superintendent search firm, Hazard Young Attea and Associates (HYA), has conducted interviews with focus groups made up of a combined total of 100 teachers, administrators, city government representatives, district administration, parents, business executives, community leaders, former Board of Education members, and past Superintendents to assist in shaping the leadership profile for the next Superintendent of Vineland Public Schools.

The Vineland High School Historical Committee visited the Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society on March 4 for a special field trip. During the visit, students received a behind-the-scenes tour of the archives, an area not normally open to the public. They also had the opportunity to assist with archival work, gaining hands-on experience while learning about the preservation of local history.

On Monday, March 2, Mrs. Suzette DeMarchi, Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction, visited Mennies Elementary School to meet with our 5th grade student leaders for a roundtable discussion.
The purpose of the meeting was to hear directly from students about their experiences at school, gather their ideas for growth and improvement, and learn how we can better support their academic success and emotional well-being. Providing students with a meaningful voice in these conversations is an important part of strengthening our school community.
Our students truly enjoyed the opportunity to share their thoughts. They were proud to represent Mennies and contribute to positive change within both our school and the district.

Congratulations to the VHS February Dancers of the Month, Amani Goodwin and Olivia DiGregorio! Both of these dancers demonstrate unwavering dedication and a strong work ethic, and they approach every dance class with a commitment to becoming the best dancers they can be! In addition to their exceptional dedication, Amani and Olivia are supportive of all of their peers, always encouraging them! Mennies Elementary School proudly hosted a vibrant Multicultural Event on Thursday, February 26th, generously sponsored by a PEP grant from the Vineland Education Association. The evening brought together families and staff to celebrate the rich diversity within our school community, with student families playing an important role in sharing their cultures and traditions.
A beautiful balloon arch capturing the multicultural theme, created by Everyjoy Moments LLC in Vineland, welcomed guests as they arrived at Mennies. Guests received a passport and a “travel” bag as they began their journey “around the world” in the all-purpose room. The event featured regions and countries including China, the Philippines, Ukraine, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Norway, Poland, Ireland, Honduras, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the United States. Each table offered unique informational posters, artifacts, games, and, of course, delectable treats such as Pastellios, Flan, Tembleque, Mexican hot chocolate, Ukrainian punch and desserts, Chinese egg rolls and fortune cookies, Greek pita and hummus, Pork egg rolls from the Philippines, Thai lo mein noodles, French croissants, stroopwaffles from the Netherlands, and Italian meatballs in marinara sauce. There were trivia games, make your own macaroni bracelets, coloring activities and even domino games as well!
The evening concluded with an inspiring presentation from Dream Builders of NJ about the importance of embracing cultures. Families filled the room with energy and joy as they ended the night salsa dancing — with a special visit from Celia Cruz bringing extra excitement to the celebration. It was a wonderful night of learning, connection, and community pride!

At Stg. Dominick Pilla Middle school students in Miss Welden and Ms. Franco's 7th-grade ELA classes analyzed informational texts, literary texts, and video clips to gather information about Holocaust artifacts. They focused on evaluating the artifacts and their significance to the original owners. Students developed a deeper connection to how the Holocaust affected the individuals who experienced it and the damaging effects it left behind. Students then choose an artifact to recreate and present to their peers.

Students at Petway Elementary School had a wonderful time learning about the Winter Olympics during Music Class with Mrs. Andrews!
The class explored background history of the Olympics and learned about the host sites in Cortina d'Ampezzo and Milan. Musical elements in the national anthems of the United States and Italy were compared while discussing how to show respect when anthems are played.
Everyone proudly marched with torches to the sounds of the Olympic Fanfare and Theme composed by John Williams, took part in a spirited relay using movement at different tempos, and learned about Winter Olympic sports by pretending to ice skate on paper plates while following directional and tempo changes.
The class also listened and moved with colorful scarves to Winter (The Four Seasons) by Antonio Vivaldi.
It was a fun way to explore music, movement, and the spirit of the Winter Olympics!
