The Vineland Public Schools ESY Program partnered with BookSmiles to provide our ESY students with free books and the opportunity to build their own home libraries. BookSmiles, a nonprofit organization based in Pennsauken, generously provided a wide variety of books, including picture books, early readers, chapter books, and high school-level titles.
Each student was invited to select five to ten books to take home and enjoy. After the students made their selections, our staff had the opportunity to choose from the remaining books to supplement and expand their classroom libraries.
A huge thank you to BookSmiles for their continued partnership and commitment to promoting childhood literacy. We also extend our sincere appreciation to all of the volunteers—students and staff—who helped make this year's ESY Book Fair such a wonderful success!

Vineland Public Schools honored Dr. Thomas P. McCann on July 21 with a portrait unveiling at the Landis Administrative Offices, recognizing his dedicated service as interim superintendent from March through June 2026.
Superintendent Dr. Ariel Lajara welcomed guests and thanked Dr. McCann for the leadership, experience, and commitment he brought to the district during his time in the role. Dr. McCann also reflected on the honor of serving as one of only four interim superintendents in district history.
A longtime Vineland educator and administrator, Dr. McCann spent 31 years serving the district as an assistant principal and principal at Landis Intermediate School and Vineland High School before retiring in 2018. His wife, children, and grandchildren joined district leaders, colleagues, and guests for the special recognition.
We thank Dr. McCann for once again answering the call to serve Vineland Public Schools and congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.

Attention new incoming Pilla Middle School students! We will be hosting our annual 6th-grade/new-student orientation on Monday, August 24! Student activities will take place from 10 am-12 pm with a parent presentation from 11 am-12 pm. Explore the school, meet some of the staff, and kick off your Panther journey!
Vineland FFA attended the Cumberland County Fair on July 7th to 11th. The Cumberland County Board of Agriculture sponsored the FFA tent, a partnership between Vineland FFA and Cumberland Regional FFA. Vineland FFA members had hands-on activities for children, including touch-and-play grain tables, a sunflower planting station, and a coloring table. Children were able to learn about crops grown in Cumberland County and even take their own sunflower crop home to grow themselves. Along with our hands-on activities, FFA members sold plants donated by generous sponsors within Cumberland County. Funds raised will go towards FFA event fees and jackets for members. Vineland FFA members enjoy participating in community events and advocating for agriculture. Check us out at Vineland’s National Night Out with our farmer for a night tent on August 4th!
This week, active and retired Vineland Public Schools educators are representing our district at the Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Northeast/Southeast Regional Conference, where women educators from across the regions have gathered to collaborate around the shared themes of service, leadership, and world understanding.
Alpha Delta Kappa is an international organization of women educators whose mission is to unite outstanding educators while advancing educational excellence, altruism, and world understanding. Through leadership, scholarship, and service, ADK members continue to strengthen the teaching profession and support communities around the world.
One of the conference highlights was the recognition of the Rowan University ADK Collegiate Club, a partnership led by Diane Mazzei and Debi Quinn. The ADK Collegiate Club is creating a meaningful pipeline into the teaching profession by connecting aspiring educators with experienced mentors, demonstrating how today's educational leaders are investing in tomorrow's workforce.

Super Bowl Champion Jamil Demby, in partnership with Vineland Youth Football and Cheerleading, is hosting a Football and Cheer Camp on Friday, July 24 from 5:30-8:30pm at the Benny Coker Field, 3rd and Chestnut St./Normandie Lane in Vineland.
