At Petway Elementary School, Art Teacher Ms. Marcacci and Spanish Teacher Señora Grieco collaborated on a Día de los Muertos celebration, which included students from all grades. Students learned about the Latin American holiday and made papel picado and cempasúchiles with Señora Grieco. Students in Ms. Marcacci’s class created various ofrenda items. Students in first grade and kindergarten made calaveras, while some art groups worked on creating flowers and butterflies. Many Hispanic Heritage Night participants also created small memorial candles for loved ones who are no longer with us. An ofrenda was placed in the atrium filled with student work and pictures sent in by families of loved ones who are no longer with us. Students became more globally and culturally aware as they celebrated and remembered those who are no longer with us in this beautiful Latin American tradition.

On Monday, November 3rd, students from the Wallace NJHS spent a few hours at Krumbs Cafe to help decorate the cafe for Christmas. They helped put up the Christmas tree and add holiday cheer throughout the cafe! "I am very proud of these students for giving their time to help others," said advisor Jamie Ecret.
On November 3rd, Winslow School welcomed a fantastic array of community vehicles as part of an enriching event sponsored by the PRIDE Grant through the Vineland Education Association. Students had the extraordinary opportunity to explore and learn about various vehicles firsthand.
Throughout the day, students engaged in interactive experiences, including climbing into vehicles, honking horns, observing equipment, conversing with drivers, and asking questions to deepen their understanding. The event featured a diverse selection of vehicles, ranging from firetrucks, jeeps, big rig trucks, a bucket truck, a tractor, and even a limousine!
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the landing of a NJ State Police helicopter in the back field, captivating the imagination of all in attendance. Following an exciting morning of exploration, students and community members enjoyed delicious cookies from Chick-Fil-A.
Overall, the Community Vehicles Day was a resounding success, providing students with an unforgettable learning experience and fostering a deeper connection with their community. We extend our sincere thanks to all involved in making this event possible and look forward to future opportunities for hands-on learning and discovery.

A spooky and spectacular day was had by all this Halloween in Mrs. Nonnemacher’s class at Petway! 🎃 Students explored the question, “What makes a pumpkin sick?” Using their science skills, they hypothesized how different ingredients could combine to create a chemical reaction that produced carbon dioxide — also known as the “sick pumpkin” effect! The class had a blast observing the bubbling, fizzing fun of their science experiment!

Dayohn Denny, a courageous VHS student who battled cancer, had his lifelong dream of meeting the Philadelphia Eagles come true through the Make-A-Wish Foundation with help from the Philadelphia Eagles. Dayohn was allowed to bring 2 guests, and he chose to bring his mother and his teacher, Jennifer Curcuru. On October 26, Dayohn, his mother, and Jennifer attended the Eagles’ home game against the New York Giants.
From the moment he arrived, Dayohn received VIP treatment. He got exclusive field and tunnel access, where he met players, watched both individual and team warmups up close, and was given his own custom Eagles jersey and a football signed by players who took time to talk with him about his dreams of playing in the NFL.
Dayohn also took part in the opening ceremonies, standing on the field during player introductions and the national anthem. He even had the unforgettable honor of waving the Eagles flag to fire up the crowd and trying on a Super Bowl ring.
During the game, Dayohn enjoyed amazing seats as he watched the Eagles defeat the Giants 38–20. Go Birds! After the game, he was treated to a private meet-and-greet with Saquon Barkley in the Lincoln Lounge, where Barkley and his family spent time with Dayohn, signed his football, and gave him a signed jersey.
After the whole experience, Dayohn said “I am very inspired by the players and their stories which gives me motivation and drive to pursue my own football dreams.” The experience, made possible by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Eagles organization, was truly unforgettable. They went above and beyond to make Dayohn’s day extraordinary — celebrating his strength, his love for football, and his inspiring spirit.

They also observed that the pumpkin's color was bright orange on the outside and a lighter orange inside. Everyone had a wonderful time exploring and learning through this fall-themed science activity.

Just a reminder of our schedule next week!

Takye Ledbetter, an 8th-grade student in Miss Welden and Ms. Franco's ELA class at Pilla, wrote and published a short suspense story called "The Girl In My House." After reading and analyzing stories written by Edgar Allan Poe, Takye was inspired by the use of suspense strategies and descriptive language employed by Poe, which helped him create his own unique tales. Takye recently produced and acted out another short story for his classmates during ELA.
We are so Pilla Proud of Takye!
