Dr. Blake Brandes, an award-winning beatboxer, rapper, and music producer, engaged students in learning about perseverance through the art of music! In Graphic Design 3 at Vineland High School, students dove into advanced techniques to reimagine iconic movie posters with a fresh, creative twist. They carefully preserved essential elements like the original title, actor names, and key captions, ensuring each poster stayed true to its source. Drawing from classic spooky-season films—Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, and Hocus Pocus—students explored methods for capturing mood, composition, and visual storytelling. This project encouraged them to think critically about design elements such as color, typography, and image manipulation, pushing them to blend originality with homage. Pictured are Athena Gonzalez with her Beetlejuice poster and Brandon Harrell with his Ghostbusters poster.

Mrs. Trionfo and Ms. Vinnick’s 4th and 5th grade Garden Club at Rossi School honored Hispanic Heritage Month by learning about Día de los Muertos and its beautiful traditions. Using marigolds planted in spring, students discovered how these vibrant flowers are essential in creating ofrendas to honor loved ones. Fourth graders painted rocks in festive colors to border the display, while 5th-grade students painted sugar skulls and brought in pictures of loved ones, paying close attention to every detail. It was a meaningful way to connect with culture, nature, and family memories! 🌼

Miss Perry’s class at Winslow Elementary School ventured outside to explore and gather autumn treasures like acorns and pinecones. Back in the classroom, students eagerly sorted and counted their collections, then practiced writing addition equations to show their total pieces — an exciting new skill they’re learning! The enthusiasm and "whaley" excellent behavior our young learners displayed made for a fun, successful, hands-on math experience!

The Vineland Education Association, through a PEP grant, hosted a Dallago Preschool Halloween Door Dash on Friday, October 25th, in an effort to bring a safe trick-or-treat event to our students. Over 230 students and their family members were in attendance, including Vineland Education Association member volunteers. Students were invited to wear their Halloween costumes as they enjoyed going door to door around the Preschool to fill their bags with goodies and manipulatives. Social-emotional activities were provided for students and their families, including a make-your-own pumpkin face sticker craft, a create-your-own pumpkin expression foam craft, and social-emotional squish pumpkins for stress relief. Additionally, healthy snacks and water were provided, as well as social-emotional books and promotional items for every child and family. As part of the Vineland Education Association PEP grant, all Dallago students received a copy of a social-emotional book, including the titles: I Need a Hug - Necesito un Abrazo or The Feelings Book - El Libro de los Sentimientos. Children’s faces lit up seeing teachers in costume and handing out goodies. Families and students were smiling ear to ear and a great time was had by all.

It was an exciting day in the Sabater Elementary School library as Mrs. Blough and Miss Priscopo read "My Mouth is a Volcano." The students learned about this month's Portrait of a Graduate competency, communication, and built their own volcanos in STEM stations. They also discussed how words can sometimes erupt from our mouths - just like lava from a volcano!

Wednesday was National Candy Corn Day! Mrs. Gonzalez’s third-grade and Mrs. Snitzel’s kindergarten classes at Rossi Elementary School enjoyed some fun activities together. First, they learned all about the history of this popular candy. Next, the third-grade students helped their little buddies by using the candy corn to count numbers. They also tried to see how many candy corn pieces they would need to fill a paper candy corn. Finally, the students were able to try the sweet treat. Mrs. Snitzel surveyed the students and teachers. By popular demand, it looks like the students loved the yellow, orange, and white sweet treat, unlike the teachers.

Petway’s safety patrol, led by Mrs. Brady, along with Mrs. Meneghetti’s and Mr. Martini’s kindergarten class practiced one of Petway’s character traits, teamwork, this week. Students collaborated and worked on a fall craft together. The safety patrol members demonstrated leadership skills by helping the kindergarten students with their pumpkin ornaments while the kindergarten students strengthened their fine motor skills. It was a great afternoon full of fall fun, new friendships being made, and celebrating teamwork!

The fourth grade students in Miss Smith and Mrs. Scarpa's classes at Petway Elementary School have been learning about energy in science. Petway fourth graders have been fortunate to have the experience of departmentalizing this year. Because of this, students have been able to dig deeper into their subjects and it is truly an amazing experience! After spending several days exploring the concepts, students were tasked with designing their own solar oven with materials ranging from cardboard boxes, plastic wrap, construction paper, and aluminum foil. Over the span of several days, students designed, tested, and adjusted their ovens. Students demonstrated multidisciplinary content knowledge to test the temperatures of their ovens and recorded the rise of temperature over the span of 20 minutes prior to finally enjoying the fruits of their labor by using their solar ovens to make delicious s'mores! Fourth grade was excited to demonstrate the success of the ovens to special guest, Mr. Nate Frey who was able to join in the fun! Some of their ovens reached temperatures of over 130 degrees! Science is yummy!

On Friday, October 25, Durand students and their families enjoyed a night of fun at the school’s 16th Annual Fall Festival. With an estimated 600+ in attendance, the two-hour event was a Fa-BOO-lous time for all!! The event was held throughout the school and also outside on school grounds. Guests could make sand art in the cafeteria, decorate pumpkins, and get balloon animals. Of course, they could also purchase yummy snacks like funnel cake, cotton candy, and popcorn, to name a few! Hallways were filled with carnival games and some specialty rooms like Madame Boo Shay’s Fortune Telling, Face Painting, and the extremely popular Haunted Room. Although costumes were not necessary, many students could be seen dressed up and out of their school uniforms for this special evening. We can’t forget the opportunity to throw a bowl of pudding at principal, Mr. Greco. With stacks of tickets in hand, students lined up to take their shot. Outside, students and their families could pick a pumpkin in the patch, bounce away in the bounce house, take a trip on the hayride, or stroll through the trunk-or-treat lane. From planning to cleaning up, this event would not have been possible without the help of the Durand Family, including our event organizer, Mrs. Pepe. Durand faculty and staff donated snack and beverage items, as well as manned the many different activities necessary for the event to happen, even retired and extended family members of Durand faculty and staff could be seen lending a hand. Special thanks go out to the Fiocchi Family for their donation of pumpkins and a tractor for the hayride and Mrs. Rusnak for her donation of hay. The Haunted Room was a real scare thanks to Vineland Fire Volunteer Fighters, including former Dolphins Zach Ellison, Joey, and Anthony Montana. Each year, Durand students look forward to this event, and each year, it gets bigger and better. Most importantly, this event is a great way for students and families to spend a Friday evening together and see just how wonderful Durand School is. In the spring Durand faculty and staff will be at it again, this time hosting their annual Spring Fling!
