Mrs. Friend and Mrs. Boesz's 4th-grade students tested their paper folding skills by making paper airplanes and participating in a paper airplane challenge. Students had a choice of three paper airplane designs; once they chose their design, they followed the directions on how to fold the paper to make the airplane. Then the students practiced throwing techniques to see the best way to throw their airplane to make it go as far as possible. Finally, the students had a toss-off to see whose plane would fly the farthest. The students had a blast testing their airplanes.
Students also took time to enjoy the beautiful weather and read. The class went outside and listened to a few chapters of the story "Wish" for a whole class read aloud. Then they did their fifteen minutes of reading to self, reading books they chose. What a great way to relax and spend one of our final days of school for the 2023-2024 school year!

In Mrs. Nonnemacher’s first-grade class at Petway Elementary, students honed their math skills and teamwork. They formed teams, solved math problems, and strategized to capture the flag. Each flag had a number on the back. After solving all the problems, the class tallied points, practicing counting by 5s and 10s. The students enjoyed showcasing their math pride and cooperative spirit!
Congratulations to Hanna Coit, Cecily Garton, Jah'Asia Williams, and Samantha Meyers on completing four years of Dance at Vineland High School. They are truly going to be missed!

The Vineland High School AFJROTC had a very eventful May! On May 4th, at the Buena Historical Car Show, the cadets who volunteered directed parking, and they gained community service hours not only for themselves but for the unit as a whole. Saturday, May 11th, cadets went to the Young Eagles program for students ages 8-17 and were able to get a free flight. Cadets were given the opportunity to go on a free flight on an airplane with experienced pilots. Many cadets brought their families out with them. The flight was for 20 minutes and after they completed it, they all received a certificate. Some of the cadets are now enrolled in the ground school training that is offered for free. Alpha Fight had their last staff meeting to wrap up their positions to hand to upcoming Alpha Flight cadets in those positions. Lastly, to end off this unit's very eventful May, the cadets marched down Landis Ave to Landis Park to honor those who served that passed away. This year, the cadets marched in honor of a former VHS AFJROTC cadet, Private First Class Steven Gonzalez, who lost his life this past year while serving the United States Army. These cadets who marched got the honor of having his mother, Tiffany Harold, a Gold Star mother, ride in the VHS AFJROTC golf cart. The cadets decorated the golf cart for her to ride in, and many cadets thanked her for her sons' service and shook her hand. This parade was a success for the VHS AFJROTC because they had more than half of the unit's corps participate!
Miss Perry's kindergarten class at Winslow Elementary School has been working hard on their writing skills, and they are now celebrating their incredible journey to becoming published writers! For weeks, the students have been planning, writing, revising, and drafting their own unique stories. We are so proud of our young authors and can't wait to see what amazing tales they create next!

Tiny Tots Preschool went on a field trip to the Cape May Zoo! With helpful chaperones in tow, our students were able to explore the zoo and meet different types of animals! It was a beautiful sunny day, filled with brand new experiences. Thank you to our families that took time out of their day to join us on this adventure!
On Tuesday, students from Ms. Armanini’s, Mrs. D’Augustine’s, Ms. Colans, and Mr. Rosa’s classes at Pilla Middle School participated in an Ice Cream Social Event. Students had the opportunity to customize their ice cream sundaes by selecting from a range of ice cream flavors and toppings. The social gathering provided a platform for socializing with peers. Activities included a craft center and chalk center. Students had a fun time!
Vineland Public Schools recognized two former Board of Education presidents at the June 5 meeting, unveiling their portraits to hang in the Landis Administration Building. Scott English served as president for three consecutive terms from 2019-2021, and Meghan Spinelli served as president for two terms from 2022-23.

We hope this message finds you well. As we begin to wrap up the 2023-24 school year and prepare for the next, we want to inform you about some important changes to our daily school schedule. These adjustments are aimed at improving our transportation services and ensuring a smoother start and end to the school day for everyone.
What’s Changing?
- High School: Start time will be 5 minutes earlier (7:28 a.m.)
- Middle School: Start time will be 5 minutes earlier (8:10 a.m.)
- Elementary School: Start time will be 10 minutes later (9:20 a.m.)
- Cunningham School: No change to the start time
- Preschool: Significant changes to the start time (8:10 a.m.)
Why the Change?
This past year, we faced numerous challenges with transportation, including delays in getting students to and from school. The high absentee rate and a shortage of substitute drivers further compounded these issues. By adjusting the start and end times, we aim to:
- Improve route efficiencies,
- Ensure timely arrivals and departures,
- And enhance overall transportation services for the district.
We are optimistic that these changes will lead to a more efficient and reliable transportation experience for all our students.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement these changes. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our school community.

Mennies' fifth-graders shared their love of learning with first-graders! Mennies' media specialist welcomes fifth-graders into the library throughout the year to help encourage younger students to love reading. Our first-grade students love reading with our school’s role models!
Vineland High School's RAFT (Resources Aligned for Teens) and PLP (Parent Linking Program) teams are collaborating to host a Health and Wellness event at Vineland High School's North (Tanner) Building for the Vineland community. On Friday, May 31, Michele Geiger from Cross County Connection came in to give the RISE students a lesson on how to navigate the NJ Transit System in an effort to increase their independence and range as they begin to look for jobs in adulthood. Ms. Geiger discussed safety when using public transportation, as well as how to find the information that is needed to travel from one destination to another. On Wednesday, June 5th, Ms. Geiger and Ms. Latifah returned to take ten of our students, assisted by VPS staff, on a trip across town to the ShopRite on Delsea Drive, seeking job opportunities. Once they checked in at the supermarket, students ate their lunch at Chick-fil-A and returned back to school using the transit system. While on the trip, students learned important lessons about punctuality and flexibility, as not every bus will run on time, and in some cases, the bus may pass by, causing a change in plans. It was a very valuable lesson for our students!
Mrs. Rowe’s class at Mennies Elementary has been learning about the life cycle of frogs and caterpillars. Students even got to enjoy watching the caterpillar's life cycle happen right in front of their eyes: from caterpillar to chrysalis and finally to butterflies! Students made crafts and even had a butterfly release party to celebrate.

On Thursday, May 30, the 2nd-5th grade students at Gloria M. Sabater Elementary School were absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to witness the breathtaking DialedAction BMX show. Not only did they learn invaluable lessons about responsibility, bike safety, and overcoming life's hurdles, but they were also completely enraptured by the high-energy and motivational assembly. It was a truly unforgettable experience!
