We hope this message finds you well. As we prepare for the 2024-25 school year, we want to inform you about some important changes to our daily school schedule. These adjustments are aimed at improving our transportation services and ensuring a smoother start and end to the school day for everyone.
Why the Change?
This past year, we faced numerous challenges with transportation, including delays in getting students to and from school. The high absentee rate and a shortage of substitute drivers further compounded these issues. By adjusting the start and end times, we aim to:
* Improve route efficiencies,
* Ensure timely arrivals and departures,
* And enhance overall transportation services for the district.
We are optimistic that these changes will lead to a more efficient and reliable transportation experience for all our students.

Congratulations to four Vineland High School students who were honored today as the recipients of the Pathway to Medicine Scholarship at Rowan College of South Jersey. Christian DeLeon, Evelyn Chavez Lopez, Tyla Nottingham, and Anthony Romero were the only four students in the county to receive the inaugural award.
The Pathway to Medicine program guarantees early acceptance to an accelerated, cost-saving pathway to a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine. Participants earn their A.S. in Biology from Rowan College of South Jersey and their B.S. in Biology from Rowan University in six semesters with a variety of specialized career and peer mentoring support to provide these top students with the support they need to excel.

During LIT Camp, students in Ms. Smith and Ms. Bronson's fourth-grade class discussed folk tales. They began by reading the creation tale Roadrunner's Dance. Students then brainstormed ideas about creating their own animals. Students were encouraged to make their animals and then write a story about their abilities and adventures.
While summer offers a much-needed opportunity to relax, it also presents the opportunity for students to maintain and sharpen their reading and math skills as they prepare for the upcoming school year. District curriculum supervisors have created a list of grade-appropriate assignments and resources to assist students in reviewing and maintaining essential skills over the summer months. Summer assignments for students entering PreK - 5 are voluntary; however, practicing literacy and math skills is strongly recommended. It will help students maintain and improve their reading and math skills as they prepare for their new grade in September. Please be advised that Summer reading assignments for students entering 6th - 12th are required. Due dates for required assignments are noted on each document. Popsicles with Principal Tomlin was a blast at Dane Barse Elementary School! Students enjoyed playing on the playground, creating a summer craft, blowing bubbles, and eating popsicles. Meeting incoming students melted her heart ❤

Students in Mr. Martine’s/Mrs. Annette’s and Mrs. Carson’s/Ms. Bryant’s classes finished Week 2 of ESY with big smiles, big brains, and even bigger bellies.
Week 2’s theme was an author study of Jory John, author of notable works such as “The Bad Seed,” “The Good Egg,” “The Smart Cookie,” “The Sour Grape,” “The Big Cheese,” and many more. Each story concludes with a social-emotional lesson ranging from forgiveness to being more active to self-care to making good choices.
All week, students participated in related activities, including graphic organizers, writing assignments, and directed drawings. To wrap up the week, students sampled treats featured in the food-based fables: a grape from “The Sour Grape,” cheese from “The Big Cheese,” a sunflower seed from “The Bad Seed,” a cookie from “The Smart Cookie,” and even a hard-boiled egg from “The Good Egg.” Students connected to math by graphing their favorite snacks on a bar graph. The winner? Of course, the cookie!
It was a great way to wrap up our second week of ESY. A fun time was had by all!

Vineland FFA attended the Cumberland County Fair from July 9th to 13th. The Cumberland County Board of Agriculture sponsored the FFA tent, which was a partnership between Vineland FFA and Cumberland Regional FFA. FFA members had hands-on activities for children, including touch-and-play grain tables, a sunflower planting station, and a coloring table. Children were able to learn about crops grown in Cumberland County and even take their own sunflower crop home to grow themselves. Along with our hands-on activities, FFA members sold plants and vegetables donated by generous sponsors within Cumberland County. Funds raised will go towards FFA event fees and jackets for members. Vineland FFA members enjoy participating in community events and advocating for agriculture. Check us out at Vineland’s National Night Out with our farmer for a night tent on August 6th!
In Mrs. Nonnemacher’s ESY classroom, students are enthusiastically engaging in math and ELA activities. They practice subtraction strategies, sequence stories after listening to “Bear Snores On,” and get creative by making masterpieces with just one dot inspired by “The Dot.” Additionally, they explore science through slime-making and magic milk experiments.
Mark your calendars! Vineland Public Schools will host the first annual Back to School Extravaganza on Monday, August 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gittone Stadium, 61 W. Landis Ave.
The FREE event will feature games and activities, community vendors, free snacks, basket raffles, and much more! Each of our district schools and several departments will be on hand to assist families and get in that back-to-school spirit. Preschool to first-grade students are also encouraged to bring a teddy bear or stuffed animal to take part in the Teddy Bear Clinic!

Mr. Martine and Mrs. Annette’s 3rd-grade class at ESY had a rootin’ tootin’ time this week! It was cowboy week, and students enjoyed read-alouds about rodeos, wrangling cattle, and of course, riding horses.
Students made their very own Wild West wanted posters and dyed the paper using tea to create an aged effect. Students also participated in numerous small group activities to enrich their learning while also having a great time.

When the ESL students at Wallace were presented with the option of demonstrating their readiness to graduate from the ESL classroom using the MODEL test, the positivity, and excitement received were simply amazing. Although many were expectedly afraid to leave some friends behind, many took on the challenge with great pride and confidence. We are all so very proud of these students. We are proud not only of the accomplishment of achieving true bilingualism but also of their ability to recognize its value in the success of their futures. Their pride and sense of accomplishment continue to inspire many of their ESL peers." stated Mr. Shinault, ESL teacher. Ms. Rosado, Ms. Galan and Mr. Newton are proud of all the hard work the students put in to Exit, 41 students were eligible. Students were celebrated with an Ice Cream Exit Party. Pictured are also the bilingual/ESL team teachers who prepared and tested our students.

The Vineland High School Girls Softball team was honored at the June 17 Board of Education meeting in celebration of their outstanding season. VHS was 26-3 on the season, including an undefeated 12-0 Cape Atlantic League record, and made it to the NJ Group IV championship game. Congratulations! 🐔
This school year, Barse Elementary School introduced B.E.A.R. Program- Barse Encourages Accountability Regularly. This program promotes academic achievement, attendance, and positive behavior. We call it the Cub Club for short. Throughout the year, 230 students earned the right to be a member of the Cub Club for at least one marking period. Three students, however, were GOLD members for the three marking periods this program was in place. Those students are:
Quetzally C., 2nd Grade
Ava C, kindergarten
Jeremiah E, kindergarten
These students were each given a medal and gift certificates to Texas Roadhouse, Chick-fil-A, and Dunkin. In addition, a drawing was held for the three Gold members for a $25 gift card. That winner was Quetzally C.

On Tuesday, June 12th, Mrs. Myerson and Mrs. Hadley's first graders at Mennies Elementary School had Visitor Day! They welcomed Mrs. Makema Douglas Edwards, an author and illustrator, into their classroom to read her book, Nyla’s Weather Hair!
They also welcomed a few special 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to share their experiences as they’ve moved up grade levels at Mennies.
Finally, they visited Mrs. Bertonazzi’s and Ms. Caterina's classrooms to learn more about what’s to come next year in 2nd grade. They had a chance to ask any questions - so they could ease any nerves and build excitement! Finally, the firsties teamed up with a 2nd grader to play a game! It was a great day!

On Friday, June 14th, Dane Barse School held their Annual Staff vs. 5th-grade Students Kickball Game, run by Mrs. Nicole Robbins, Physical Education Teacher. Students from Mrs. Beltran's, Mrs. Trasferini's, and Mr. Clark's classes played kickball against 21 Barse Staff members, while students from Kindergarten through 4th grade came out to spectate and support the players. Vineland Public School's Athletic Director, Sylvester Cifaloglio, officiated the game that ended in a score of Staff - 29 to Students 15. Following the game, all staff and 5th-grade students voted on a Most Valuable Player from each team. Ms. Tessa Messore was named the Staff MVP, and 5th-grade student Jozeah Rodriguez was named the Student MVP.
