At last night’s Board of Education meeting, the senior members of the Vineland High School Marching Band were honored for their dedication and achievements. Director Justin Feliciano and Drum Major Angelina Medio introduced the talented group, who have had a fantastic season with their field show, VHS Grimm. The band earned multiple accolades, including a first-place victory at the highly competitive Clearview High School competition. We are incredibly proud of the marching band for representing Vineland Public Schools with skill, energy, and passion. Their performances bring pride and excitement to every event they attend, showcasing the best of our district.

Our Breast Cancer Awareness Service project was a HUGE success at Anthony Rossi School! A big Thank You to our committee and everyone who donated. We were able to donate $2,000 to Team Jolly Jugs, run by Sheri Calabrese. A spare change challenge was given to the students and they did not disappoint. Grade 3 & 5 ran neck and neck most of the month, with Grade 3 taking the lead in the last few days. For all their efforts and dedication they earned an ice cream party.

Students in Mrs. Rodriguez’s 2nd grade class at Rossi Elementary School learned about the origin of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade through the book, “Balloons Over Broadway.” After listening to the read-aloud, students studied the text with discussions about the author’s purpose and character traits. They also discussed problems and solutions and learned about the process of building the balloon floats and how it has changed over time. On the day before Thanksgiving Break, students created their own balloon floats. They were all smiles as they paraded their creations through the school.

Our Johnstone Jaguars have been busy showcasing teamwork and school spirit! In September, students from grades 6, 7, and 8 were placed into colorful houses as part of our Crittercoin program. They worked together to earn digital coins for their teams by demonstrating positive behaviors like paying attention to detail and lending a helping hand. The majority of the coins that are awarded also focus on the portrait of a graduate project. Coins are awarded for empathy, adaptability, perseverance, responsibility, communication, and critical thinking. House Competition Highlights: Jaguar Red held the lead for a significant portion of the competition but was ultimately surpassed by Jaguar Orange. Honorable mention to Jaguar Yellow, Green, Purple, and Blue! Congratulations to Jaguar Orange for becoming the 1st marking period champions! Their grand reward was a delightful visit from an ice cream truck, where they enjoyed a variety of flavors together. We are so proud of our students for embracing this friendly competition and demonstrating the values we strive for at Johnstone!

Students in Mrs. Gaetano/Mrs. Uebelacker's 5th-grade class at Mennies Elementary School teamed up with students from Mrs. Leone's class to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that were donated to The Vineland Soup Kitchen. Prior to making the sandwiches, the students participated in a Portrait of a Graduate competency lesson on empathy and what it would be like to put themselves in someone else's shoes-specifically someone who may be a little less fortunate. Students decided to forego having their own party festivities and instead chose to donate their time to make the sandwiches for the Soup Kitchen. The students learned a valuable lesson on empathy and expressed how they were truly grateful for so many things.

At Mennies School, one of Mrs. Benedetto's 3rd grade reading groups just finished a book, The Mystery of the Missing Book. It was a cute story about a student who is the new advice columnist for the 3rd grade newspaper. When she receives her first letter, she learns that someone saw who took Ms. Smith's book. It was fun for the reading group to write clues to solve the mystery. After the book was finished, the students wanted to make a newspaper and chose what topics they wanted to write about. They used an index card to write out their ideas. Mrs. Benedetto put all their writings into a Canva Newspaper for them and published it. They had a lot of fun!
