Dear Members of the Vineland Public Schools Community,

I want to share a message with you directly, and from the heart.

On January 7, the New Jersey State Board of Education approved my appointment as State Superintendent of the Camden City School District. As a result, I have submitted my resignation as Superintendent of Vineland Public Schools.

This was not an easy decision. Serving Vineland has been one of the greatest privileges of my career and one of the most meaningful chapters of my life. This community, this district, and the people who make it what it is will always stay with me.

Over the years, we have talked often about empathy, connection, and doing the right thing—even when it is hard. This decision reflects those same values. Growth often requires change, and while change can be uncomfortable, it also opens the door to new opportunities to serve, learn, and lead with purpose.

To the members of the Vineland Board of Education, I offer my sincere respect and appreciation. Your trust, guidance, and partnership made it possible to do this work thoughtfully and with integrity. Together, we faced challenges, celebrated progress, and stayed focused on what matters most—our students.

To our staff: thank you for the heart you bring to this work every single day. You show up for students in ways that often go unseen, choosing what is right over what is easy. Your professionalism, resilience, and compassion are the foundation of this district. It has truly been an honor to walk this journey with you and to learn alongside you.

To our families and community members: thank you for your partnership, your honesty, and your belief in Vineland Public Schools. The strength of this district has always been rooted in its people and its relationships, and I am proud of what we have built together.

As we move forward, please know that I remain fully committed to supporting a smooth, thoughtful, and responsible transition. I will continue to work closely with the Board and the leadership team to ensure continuity and stability for our schools, staff, students, and families.

I leave Vineland with deep gratitude, great pride, and strong confidence in the future of this district. Vineland Public Schools will always hold a special place in my heart.

Thank you for allowing me the honor of serving this community.

With sincere appreciation,

Alfonso Q. Llano, Jr.
Superintendent of Schools
