Twenty-one Vineland High School students were recently named AP Scholars, as announced by the College Board this month. Every year, the College Board’s AP Program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP Exams.
AP Scholar Awards have different distinctions, depending on how many tests are taken and the scores on those tests, among others. Of the 21 VHS students who received honors:
- 14 earned the distinction of AP Scholar - Granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.
- Four earned AP Scholar With Distinction - Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
- Two earned the AP Capstone diploma
- Six earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.
VHS currently offers 26 AP courses. All tests are free of charge for these students in recognition of their pursuit of the most rigorous coursework available.
AP Capstone is a diploma program from the College Board. It’s based on two year-long AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. Rather than teaching subject-specific content, these courses develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. Students who complete the two-year program can earn one of two different AP Capstone awards, which are valued by colleges across the United States and around the world. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing receive the AP Capstone Diploma. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research but not on four additional AP Exams receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.
