Superintendent Alfonso Llano visited Vineland High School Monday morning to hold a roundtable meeting with VHS class officers and Student Government Association officers. Principal Suzette DeMarchi was also present and the group was treated to breakfast provided by Sodexo.
The meeting was a way for the superintendent to gain student perspectives on the atmosphere and operation of the high school. A variety of hot topics were discussed, including the dress code and social media, with Llano asking each officer to name something they enjoy about their high school experience along with something they would change. Students voiced their concerns about unity between the student body with the grades divided between different buildings, and encouraged administration to look into more activities that all grades could participate in to build school spirit. Many students also praised the diversity and acceptance at the high school, noting that they appreciate it is a safe space for all.
Llano plans to meet with the officers and VHS administration regularly throughout the school year.
