Seventeen HOSA members win medals at regional competition

Seventeen Vineland High School students won medals in various events on Saturday, February 2 at the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Southern New Jersey Regional Competition. The event was held at the Cumberland County Technical Education Center. 
The award winners included: Francis Virtucio, first place in Medical Math; Natalie Garrett and Isaac Garrett, first place for Basic Life Support; Katia Antoinetti, first place in Prepared Speaking; James Virtucio, second place in Prepared Speaking; Gabrielle Whittle, third place in Job Seeking Skills; Amanda Fiocchi, fourth place for Behavioral Health; Rucha Shah, fourth place in Pharmacology; Krishna Patel, fifth place in Pharmacology; and Preet Patel, sixth place in Pharmacology. Medalists in Dental Terminology included Elizabeth Alarcon. Raesha Campbell and Surleen Kaur both received medals in Medical Spelling. Medalist in Extemporaneous Health Poster was Bianca Cicchino. Stephen Janetta received a medal in Pathophysiology. Andrew Rodriquez received a medal in Researched Persuasive Speaking and Writing and Michelle Zheng received a medal in Medical Math. Other participants included Kiana Zheng, Madeleine Walters, Vedant Patel, Aracelli Emiliano Carly D'Arigo, Elahi Zara, and Ciena Afanador. 
“These students should be commended, as they spent countless hours studying and preparing for this event and many now qualify for the NJ State HOSA competition in March,” said Angela D’Ottavio, Health Sciences Teacher and HOSA Advisor. “I’m so proud of them all.”
