Durand School holds first Superhero Bash

Kapow, Bam, Boom, Dur-Wam!

On Friday, March 29, Durand Elementary School students arrived in a flash at the school’s superhero-themed Superhero Bash. Students in grades K-3 were invited to attend this special evening along with their very own hero. Flying in from all over, students came in dressed to save the day. Amidst a skyscraper backdrop and an illuminated bat signal, guests were greeted by Captain America and Wonder Woman. Students were provided with a backdrop torn right from a comic book perfect for pictures to capture this wonderful night. They even had the option to purchase personalized photo buttons. Guests were surprised by a visit from the school mascot, Skipper the Dolphin, played by5th-gradee student Edwin Elbertson, clad in a cape and superhero mask, along with Catwoman herself, who also took pictures and participated in an evening of games and fun with students and their families.

Throughout the gymnasium, stations were set up to provide students with fun activities. Mask decorating, temporary tattoos, and superhero lollipops name only a few of the many options. In between activities, students enjoyed learning about what it meant to be strong and healthy. They worked with the superhero guests to complete some fitness challenges and healthy food quizzes! At the end of the night, students participated in team games and dances. Students enjoyed dancing to crowd favorites like Watch Me, YMCA, and The Macarena. The event was a SUPER success that will certainly be a fond memory of Durand’s superhero students.

Special thanks to the many people who helped make this event a blast. To the Marie Durand PTO for their fantastic decorations and to the Durand Safety Patrol for their help with the door and activity stations. To the teachers and staff who offered help wherever needed throughout the evening. To Layla Marie Princess Playtime, Kenny I Entertainment and Vineland High School student Isabella Cruz for truly awesome entertainment. Lastly, to the Durand students and families for their attendance at this event. Your presence and enjoyment is what makes events like this wonderful!
