Working Together for a Bright Future

District hosts annual Elementary Art Show

An enthusiastic crowd of parents, family members and friends toured the Landis Administrative Offices on March 21 to see an assortment of artistic creations by Vineland Public Schools' elementary students on display at the district's 21st annual art show.

The displays, in various media, included works produced by students in kindergarten through fifth grade, according to Ross Stanger, a district supervisor of instruction.  Portraits and paintings lined the first and second floor hallways at Landis, in addition to tables displaying a variety of 3-D pieces. Schools represented included Barse, D'Ippolito, Durand, Mennies, Petway, Rossi, Sabater and Winslow.

Visitors could also take a break from walking the halls and listen to several different musical pieces in the auditorium. The evening began with a performance by the Elementary Band, under the direction of Rebecca Allen. Following the band was a performance from the Elementary String Ensemble, led by Vera Bojko. Rounding out the evening was a performance by the Rossi School Chorus, under the direction of Stephanie Murray.

The Woman's Club of Vineland again had the challenging task of judging the artwork to determine winning pieces. Stanger noted that it took the Club nearly five hours to thoroughly examine and rate the pieces of art.

June Lang, club president, presented certificates and gift cards from Michael's (crafts store) for first, second, and third place winners and an honorable mention from each school. This was the first year the club offered an honorable mention prize. First-place cards were worth $50, second place cards $20 and third-place cards $15. Honorable mentions received a box of art supplies.
