A beautiful early summer evening was a welcome backdrop for Vineland High School students celebrating their first major social event following nearly 14 months of COVID restrictions and hybrid learning. The masquerade ball-themed senior prom, a traditional rite of passage for all high school students, was held at Eastlyn Golf Course & The Greenview Inn on Wednesday.
The evening kicked off with the usual parade of limousines and classic cars as the students arrived in style to the venue. Parents were able to hop out of their vehicles for a quick photo-op before the students made their way to either the scenic golf course for more photos or to check in and begin the celebration with their classmates. The night featured energetic music, delicious food, dancing, and the traditional crowning of a king and queen. Around 400 students attended the event, which was held outside.
School officials agreed the evening was a safe and pleasant one for those who attended. Security was ever-present but unobtrusive, allowing the students to enjoy the event while ensuring a safe environment. There were also numerous faculty and school administrators on hand to monitor the evening's activities. There were some restrictions due to the pandemic, but that did not dampen its success for students and staff.
Near the end of the night, the dance floor was finally cleared to make room for the crowning of the prom king and queen. The prom court was selected earlier this week after senior class voting. The winners, announced amid resounding applause under the brightly-lit tents, were Gianni Rolle and Joshua Colon. Superintendent Dr. Mary Gruccio, who is retiring at the end of the month after 46 years in the district, was on hand to crown the new queen.
First runners-up were Tyler Muessig and Savannah Soto. Second runners-up were Brandon Carter and Janay Graham. Third runners-up were Jonathan Toney and Trinity Dickerson. Rounding out the top five contestants were Julius Holmes and Chelsea Luna.
