STATE GRADUATION (HSPA) TESTING
| For the
2007-2008 school year there are two testing periods. The October 2 - 4,
2007 test is for all seniors who did not take the HSPA or did not pass it take the HSPA. On March
4 - 6, 2008 all juniors will take the HSPA for the first time.
The March make up
testing dates
are March 11 - 13. Seniors who do not pass this test take
it in October and, if needed, March of their senior year.
Students receive two scores, one in Mathematics and the other in Language
Arts Literacy. To learn about this important graduation test, please look over the March 2008 HSPA Student Preparation Booklet, from the NJ Department of Education, which explains the test and has sample questions. Click here, on 2008 HSPA Student Preparation Booklet. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. There was a required HSPA Science test in March, 2008. This test was deemed not a graduation requirement by the NJ Department of Education a few months before the test was taken. This Science portion of the HSPA has been discontinued. This will be replaced by the new End Of Course Biology exam, which will be required of all students taking a biology course this year. The test date is May 19th and 22nd. No study guides are available yet. For a parent guide to frequently asked questions about the HSPA tests, look over the HSPA: Your Guide to the HSPA. This 6-page primer is a Q & A for parents about the HSPA exam. Please click here, on Your Guide to the HSPA. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Sample HSPA questions and test specs, for both the Math and LAL assessments, are available at the NJDOE website, www.state.nj.us/education/njpep/assessment/index.html

COLLEGE SEARCH ENGINES
|
ACT Site: http://www.act.org/college_search/fset_col_search.html This is a rudimentary search, but it works well. Nice features: You can plug in your high school GPA. Also, instead of putting in only states (Parts of PA are less than an hour away, while other parts are 10 hours away.) you may put in your zip code, then enter how many miles from that code you are willing to travel. This is helpful when a student wants to stay within '2 hours' of home.
|
SAT Program website: http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/advhome.jsp This search is more detailed than the ACT search. Nice features: You can plug in your SAT scores to match schools and you can search by division levels of sports. Also, some activities may be listed.
|
Princeton Review website: http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/ Click on the yellow "Counselor-O-Matic". This search engine is helpful because you can rate your interest in many criteria on a scale of 1 -5. Nice features: You can plug in admissions standards. Also, the results list how much you matched with your criteria. You get all 100% matches and then partial matches. Ed Ref College Search Directory: http://www.edref.com Edref is an unbiased information source of 7,500 US colleges and universities in the country and includes minority and athletic, religous search options. There is detailed information on thousands of US colleges, universities, and post-secondary trade schools. School info. includes admission requirements, degrees & majors, contact info, test scores, student diversity, religious affiliations, athletics, tuition expenses, etc.
