About Us

- The Special Education program in Vineland
is extensive and comprehensive and serves 1700 students. Speech
and language services are provided to additional 250 students.
The special education programs serve children who have disabilities
in the following areas: Auditorily Impaired, Autistic, Cognitively
Impaired, Communication Impaired, Emotionally Disturbed, Multiply
Disabled, Orthopedically Impaired, Other Health Impaired, Preschool
Handicapped, Socially Maladjusted, Specific Learning Disability,
Traumatic Brain Injury, and Visually Impaired.
-
- Many services are available in the general
education curriculum and students are only referred for special
education evaluation when a Pupil Assistance Team (PAC team)
other professionals, and/or parent finds that there is evidence
of a serious disability. Members of the Child Study Team will
then evaluate the child after meeting with the parent. Evaluations
are given in the child's dominant language. As soon as the evaluation
is completed, the Child Study Team will meet with the parents
and other educators. This group becomes the Individual Education
Program (IEP) Team, which will design a special education program
(IEP) if it is determined that the child meets the criteria for
special education.
-
- The special education program is a support
program to the general education program. The Core Curriculum
Content Standards form the basis of the special education curriculum
and are adapted and modified to meet the needs of individual
students. Special education services are provided in the general
education classroom, the resource room, and in self-contained
programs.
