The Vineland High School South Library serves a school community of some 1,500 students and staff members. While their primary function is to provide both print and electronic resources to support the school curriculum, the library staff also works to promote library use, encourage leisure reading, and empower library users with life-long research skills.
Book Collection
The Library’s print collection contains more than 18,000 circulating volumes and nearly 1,000 reference titles. Students may look for books through subject, author, title and/or keyword searches at two public access terminals connected to a computerized card catalog and circulation system.
Technology
In addition, the Library offers “cutting edge” electronic technology for online research. A bank of 21 computers connects students to the Internet for individual or class research projects. Bookmarked on each computer are several online databases which provide easy and in-depth access to such diverse topics as world history, literary criticism, biographies, multi-ethnic culture, chemistry, thousands of periodicals and much more. All of these databases are available with remote access in classrooms throughout the building and for student and staff use from home computers.
Five computer workstations are also loaded with the latest in word processing, digital photo and PowerPoint programs, so that students may manipulate their research into finalized class projects.
Audio-Visual Materials
Staff members also have access to more than 1100 videotapes, DVD’s, audiocassettes and CD’s for class use.
Reading Initiatives
The Library also hosts several reading initiatives to encourage leisure reading.
