Mission Statement: The mission of the School of Medical, Health, and Social Sciences is to provide
an introduction to and an appreciation for the relationship between the medical sciences and humanities.
Community Description: The School of Medical, Health, & Social Science will provide a program of study that will appeal to a wide range of students and will include cross content activities and projects related the health care and social science industry. We will ensure a stimulating and caring learning environment that promotes collaboration, communication, and teamwork. A variety of theme oriented elective and advanced placement courses will be offered to enhance the regular curriculum. Dual credit courses will be offered in conjunction with Cumberland County College including Elements of Health Care Careers, Nutrition, Medical Terminology, and Legal and Ethical Issues in Health Care. Our program will help students of all levels develop critical thinking skills and scientific methods through hands-on experiences and exposure to various health care and social science career paths. Although this small learning community will be geared towards preparation for college or a career in the health care industry, the skills acquired will also help prepare students for any field they may choose to enter.
Goals:
Students will:
- maintain a rigorous academic program through the theme of medical, health and social sciences;
- maximize student potential for success after high school;
- facilitate the exploration of careers in the health sciences;
- assist in the development of portfolios which demonstrate student proficiencies;
- offer opportunities which develop compassion, skill and vision; and
- provide relevant experiences through community service, job shadows and internships.
