Vineland Public Schools: Small Learning Communities
Exciting Changes at Vineland High School
The State has mandated educational changes of a significance that is unparalleled to any other change of the past thirty years. We have the opportunity to truly make a better educational environment and program for our children of the high school levels. With the vision and efforts of the many talented professional staff of these levels, we will succeed in producing the foremost educational program in our State.
- Students of all SLCs will have expanded opportunities to take part in honors-level and AP-level courses.
- Students will remain in the same small learning community, and thus the same building, for all four years of high school, meaning an abolishment of our current 9-10 building and 11-12 building.
- Increased academic rigor will include the abolishment of all "general" level courses at the high school level.
- An advisory program with all the professional staff members assigned no more than twenty students whom they will meet with on a weekly basis, and also meet with parents a minimum of twice each year. Such advisors will work with students for all four years of high school.
- Mandatory common planning time for all teachers.
- Professional development necessary to implement scch changes.
- All courses will be 84 minutes in length, and will be held from September through January and February through June.
