School closing information, updated procedures |
|
With winter and inclement weather almost here, Vineland Public Schools has announced updated procedures for informing families of students a
nd employees when school will be closed or opening late.
The decision to close school or delay the opening of school is usually announced between 5 and 6 a.m. In rare cases, when the weather is extremely severe, that decision may be made earlier, or even the night before.
In all cases, parents and the general public can access information about school closings, delayed openings, bus delays or other weather-related information from the following sources:
- Calling the main Vineland Public Schools number at 856 794-6700. When appropriate, an announcement is recorded and available to as many as 60 callers at a time.
- On the home page of the Vineland Public Schools website: http://www.vineland.org/vps.html
- On regional television: Information is transmitted to all of the Philadelphia television stations, NBC-40 (Atlantic City) and many radio stations in Philadelphia and throughout South Jersey.
- On local television: Channel 9 on the Comcast network (only in Vineland, Newfield and Buena Borough) and Verizon FIOS Channel 41 (in Vineland and other communities in South Jersey). As soon as a decision is made, there will be a scrolling message with weather-related information appearing at the bottom of the Channel 9/41 bulletin board.
- Via email. Those interested in receiving this information immediately may submit a message by clicking here: Request to Receive Weather Releated Announcements. Their email addresses will be put on a list of people who receive weather-related announcements within 10 minutes of an announced change in school status.
Depending on the circumstances, the district's outcall service may also be used to inform students, their families, and staff about delayed openings and school closings.
As a public service, VPS and Channel 9/41 also broadcast similar information for Cumberland County College, the City of Vineland, parochial and private schools, the preschool providers and the Vineland YMCA.
