Parents of students new to Vineland Public Schools in September are urged to make an appointment to register their child as soon as possible to avoid delays that could prevent the child from starting school on the first day of classes.
For new high school students, delays could also limit choices of the district’s new Small Learning Communities initiative as individual communities fill up.
“We are urging all parents to begin the registration process as soon as possible,” said Joseph Callavini, Transportation/Registration Coordinator. “We can handle 30 plus appointments per day, which means there are more than 1,800 opportunities for parents to complete the paperwork necessary for their child to begin school on time.”
“Unfortunately, every summer we have parents who wait until the last minute to register their child,” said Callavini. “This means, beyond the obvious delays in completing the process, that there is a real possibility their child will not be able to start school on time.”
To start the process, parents need to pick up a registration packet, at the Vineland Public Schools office at 17 West Landis Avenue (opposite Sears). This packet – 13 pages for students in grades K-12 and 16 pages for preschoolers --- includes instructions and all the information parents must have to complete the registration process. At that time, an appointment will be made to finish the registration.
The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the summer and registration appointments are available from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will also be a limited number of evening appointments.
Another important change this year is that before and after-school child care services for students in grades K-5 will be provided by the Vineland YMCA. This is a separate registration and parents who need these services should contact the Y as soon as possible at (856) 691-0030 for details.
“Our first appointments have already been scheduled for July 7,” said Callavini. “We are hoping to reach as many parents as possible with this information so we will have an orderly, efficient schedule that meets everyone’s needs.”
