Homework Assignments

for Room A-11

Homework can help students learn and can help parents be involved in their children's education.

When parents show an interest in their child's education, they teach an important lesson-that learning is fun and worth the effort.

Daily homework will be written in their agenda.  Special homework assignments and projects will be explained on this page.

Homework is designed to help all students achieve greater academic success and helps develop effective work habits. The homework assigned to them on a nightly basis will be review from that day's lesson in class.

Homework Tips for Parents:

-Check for homework assignments in the agenda.
-Choose a quiet place and time to complete homework.
-Support, clarify, and motivate, BUT DO NOT DO THE HOMEWORK FOR YOUR CHILD.
-
Be wary if your child never has homework.

If your child has no homework this evening...there is always something to do.

   Math--Study times table

   Writing--Practice cursive writing

   Read a chapter book

   Watch the Evening News

   Have conversations with adults

All homework is due on the date given to the students. This is required in
order to give the students opportunities to display acts of responsibility,
to prepare them for the future, and to keep them from falling behind in school.
It also enables me to provide quick feedback on completed assignments.

Work will be accepted late. However, the highest grade that a student can receive on late work is 85%. Work that is not turned in will be given a "0" in the grade book for that assignment.

Students who are absent will be given the work that they missed upon their return to school or, depending on the circumstances, they may be exempted from the assignments. For every day that a student is absent, he or she will have one day to get caught up. For example, if a student is absent for three days, then he or she will have three days to get caught up.

(I understand that students sometimes need additional time to get their missing assignments turned in when situations arise that are beyond their control. Therefore, I may allow students to have extra time to complete specific missing assignments without being penalized, if a note is brought in that has been signed by a parent, and contains a reasonable explanation.)
