Congratulations to two students from Veterans Memorial School who qualified to perform with the All South Jersey Junior High Band. Ed Zatzariny, the school's band director, is pleased to announce that Noah Kouhoupt, an eighth-grader, qualified in his very first audition attempt on two instruments: saxophone and clarinet. Alex Clouting, a sixth-grader, qualified on trumpet in his very first audition attempt.
The audition was held on Jan. 26 at Southern Regional Middle School in Manahawkin and included 304 students from 71 different middle schools from all over South Jersey. The rigorous audition requirements included the following criteria: students exhibiting competency in scales, rudiments, rhythms, dynamics, and articulations applicable to individual instruments; students demonstrating a high level of proficiency in sight-reading skills; and students playing a solo etude of advanced difficulty with precision.
The All South Jersey Junior High Band is sponsored by South Jersey Band and Orchestra Directors Association (SJBODA). SJBODA covers the largest geographical region area of the three regions in New Jersey—Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean, and Salem Counties. The organization sponsors a Senior High Orchestra, Senior High Wind Ensemble, Senior High Symphonic Band, Junior High String Ensemble, two Junior High Bands, and two Elementary Honors Bands. The Association works in conjunction with the South Jersey Choral Directors Association.
The concert will be held on Sunday, March 3 at 3 p.m. at Fernwood Middle School in Egg Harbor Township.
