Top 5 students from Cumberland County schools honored at annual banquet

Vineland High School's top five students in the class of 2019 were among the 20 scholars from Cumberland County's five high schools honored on May 23 at the annual Cumberland County Academic Excellence Banquet held in the Luciano Conference Center at Cumberland County College.
The event is held every year to salute the highest achieving seniors at Bridgeton, Cumberland Regional, Millville, and Vineland High Schools. Sponsors are the Cumberland County Association of School Administrators and the Cumberland County Office of Education, along with each of the school districts. Host was Leslie White-Coursey, Cumberland County Executive Superintendent of Schools.
The academic and extracurricular accomplishments of each VHS student were presented by Suzette DeMarchi, Vice Principal at VHS. Also in attendance to congratulate the top VHS scholars was Dr. Mary Gruccio, Superintendent of Schools, and Board of Education member F. John Sbrana. Vineland's top five students included Sara Parks, Rucha Shah, Sakshi Thakkar, Komalpreet Dhinju, and Nyah Marshall.
Guest speaker at the event was Kelsey Sherman, 2013 graduate of Millville High School. She is currently working as a trauma nurse at Cooper Hospital in Camden. Sherman asked the upcoming graduates to reflect on their four years of high school and the journey they’ve taken from freshman to senior year, before offering some words of wisdom based on her own college experiences.
“The end of this chapter for you is here and a new chapter is about to begin, which can be very exciting, yet very terrifying,” Sherman said. “Everything you’ve worked for your whole life in school is finally here and your bright future is just beginning.”
Citations and plaques were presented to the students by Darlene Barber, Deputy Freeholder Director from Cumberland County; Dr. Dina Rossi, Superintendent of Cumberland County Technical Education Center and president of the Cumberland County Association of School Administrators; and dignitaries from each school.

The top five students from the other county schools included:

Bridgeton: Keyoni Collins, Zerdali Perez Garcia, Kiara Pantaleon, Alexis Pacheco, and Cindi Reyes
Cumberland Regional: Jaden Johnson, Isabella Nash, Max Tucker, Miguel Vera, and Galileo Wang
