Sabater teacher selected as recipient of Fulbright fellowship

Congratulations to Marquis Strickland, Bilingual 5th grade ELA/Social Studies teacher at Sabater Elementary School, who has been accepted for the prestigious Fulbright fellowship summer program in Oaxaca, Mexico!
Mr. Strickland will have the opportunity to spend a month studying the language and culture with a group of fellow educators. This is the second year in a row that a Vineland teacher has received the honor. Last year, ASL teacher and World Languages Department Chair Juliana Frankenfield won the award. Her fellowship work focused on Oaxaca’s deaf community.
According to Dr. JoAnn Negrin, Supervisor of ESL, World Languages, Bilingual Education, and Performing Arts, the opportunity to study in Oaxaca is particularly relevant for Mr. Strickland and VPS teachers in general, as much of the district’s Mexican population hails from that state.
