District hosts 5th annual Super Science Saturday

Cloudy skies and light rain couldn’t keep young science enthusiasts away as the Vineland High School science staff and students hosted the fifth annual Super Science Saturday on April 13 at the VHS South Campus.

The event featured nearly 50 display tables, hands-on activities and demonstrations in the areas of biology, chemistry, earth science, forensics, physics, botany, robotics, engineering, zoology and more. A covered petting zoo was stationed in the front driveway, with a variety of farm animals to interact with. New this year was the popular StarLab traveling Planetarium, which allowed students to learn about science through the unique inflatable station. The event also featured appearances by Rowdy Rooster, Know-it-All Lobster, Uranium Man, Thing 1 and Thing 2, the Lorax, and characters from Star Wars. Members of the Wizardry 101 club performed for the crowd periodically throughout the event.

Students were also asked to sign in as they arrived, pitting the schools against each other for highest attendance. Winslow Elementary School won the contest and will receive a visit from Rowdy Rooster and a chemical demonstration show performed by the Wizardry 101 club, as well as a certificate of commendation.
