D’Ippolito Elementary School held its annual Parent Appreciation Night on November 29, sponsored by the Vineland Education Association. For the second consecutive year, the theme for this wonderful event was “Bravo to Our Parents”.
BRAVO, which stands for Be Respectful and Value Others, is the character education program at D’Ippolito School. Each month, students are introduced to a new character trait at the Bravo Assemblies, which also feature special guests, awards, and other motivational activities. At Parent Night, the students were very excited to introduce and share with their parents the character traits through fun family activities. Families played Superhero Bingo, which is an example of the character trait Cooperation. To demonstrate Compassion, students and their families made cards to give to sick children at Inspira Hospital. One of the most popular activities of the night was the opportunity for students and their families to make Sand Art, which was paired with the character trait Optimism. Families also had a blast taking pictures using superhero props; this activity demonstrated Personal Pride. As an example of the character trait Acceptance, students were invited to read books about diversity with their families.
D’Ippolito also welcomed Capital Bank who participated by sharing resources about responsible savings planning, and Sue Bacon, Cumberland County CAP Coordinator, talked to parents about bullying prevention and Respect. Before families participated in activities, they all enjoyed a delicious meal provided by Wheat Road Cold Cuts and funded through a VEA, Pride in Education Grant.
