550 attend annual senior prom at Centerton Country Club

Vineland High School students added some extra glamor to their Enchanted Forest-themed senior prom this year, celebrating one of the biggest events of the year at the Grove at Centerton Country Club on Thursday.

The prom-goers started arriving at about 6:30 p.m. There was the usual parade of stretch limos, party busses, and classic cars. Proud and excited family members jockeyed for position, snapping photos and savoring the moment when their children put aside their jeans and casual clothes in favor of colorful floor-length dresses and tuxedos.

Within an hour, most had strolled down the newly-renovated building’s long hallway to the grand ballroom.

The night featured energetic music, delicious food, dancing, and the traditional crowning of a king and queen. Nearly 550 students attended the event. School officials agreed the evening was a safe and pleasant one for those who attended. Security was ever-present but unobtrusive, allowing the students to enjoy the event while ensuring a safe environment. There were also numerous faculty and school administrators on hand to monitor the evening's activities.

After a buffet dinner, the teenagers danced and socialized, celebrating the traditional end-of-year rush of sports, academic and extracurricular awards ceremonies that culminates with commencement on June 19.

Near the end of the night, the dance floor was finally cleared to make room for the crowning of the prom king and queen. The prom court was selected earlier this week after senior class voting. The winners, announced amid a deafening roar in the ballroom, were Siera Rivera and Kollin Fleeks.

First runners-up were Quajon Kinsey and Aliyah Escobar. Second runners-up were Otis Harold and Yovanzka Cubi. Third runners-up were Isaiah Blakely and Abiana Serrano. Rounding out the top five contestants were Tamant Maceia and Sonialys Badillo.

Escorts were Kari Stockbridge, Lindsey Thies, Mannetta McAvaddy, Kim Rivera, Adaliz DeJesus, Kate Cronk, Vanessa Rasmussen, John Procopio, Donna Garrett, and Elliot DeShields.
