Dear Vineland Public Schools Community,
On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, the Vineland Police Department and Vineland Public Schools received information via social media regarding a potential threat at our schools. Our schools were able to safely operate on a normal schedule on Wednesday.
False information was shared by a student at Durand Elementary School that required the school to go into a brief shelter-in-place. Police were dispatched to the school immediately and the student who shared the information has been identified.
We would like to thank our staff across the district for their efforts in ensuring our students’ safety and the Vineland Police Department for their support and constant presence.
The safety of our students and staff is our first priority and we take all threats of this nature seriously. Please remind your children that social media plays a large role in our society and we are being continually challenged to help them use social media in a safe and respectful way. All social media posts that are threatening in nature are investigated by district officials and local law enforcement. Consequences for creating and distributing threatening posts may be severe.
Any information that you think would assist today’s investigation can be sent to Juvenile Unit Sergeant N. Sterchele at nsterchele@vinelandcity.org or by sending an anonymous tip to VPD.TIPS from any smartphone.
Sincerely,
Mr. Alfonso Q. Llano
Superintendent
