COMMUNICABLE DISEASE POLICY
Students with suspected communicable diseases/illnesses are to be excluded from school attendance until a doctor’s note is provided to indicate lack of communicability according to Board policy.
Communicable illnesses requiring a doctor’s certificate before returning to school are:
Conjunctivitis (Pink eye)
Hepatitis (Types A, B and C)
Impetigo
Influenza
Measles (Rubeola, Rubella)
Scabies
Chicken pox is a very contagious illness. The disease is most contagious for 24 hours prior to the lesions breaking out. It continues to be contagious until all of the pox are dried up and no new ones are appearing. Please be sure to notify the school nurse if your child breaks out with chicken pox.
In addition, conditions that require antibiotic treatment (bacterial infections such as strep throat, conjunctivitis) also require that the student be taking their antibiotic treatment (oral medication or eye drops) for at least 24 hour prior to returning to school.
If your child has had diarrhea, been vomiting, or has had a temperature of 100.0 or greater, it is recommended that they stay home until the symptoms have disappeared.
