Creative Corner

Here are some prompts to keep in mind when reading to your children...just remember CROWD:

 

C - Completion Prompt: Child finishes sentence in a sentence that is predictable.

R - Recall Prompt: Ask about what happened in a book.

O - Open-Ended Prompt: Focus on the pictures in a story. "Tell me what is happening in this picture."

W - Wh Prompts: Use "what," "when," "how" and "why" questions. Also, focus on the pictures in a story.

D - Distancing Prompts: Ask children to relate picture or words to something in their lives.
