Petway School Wins Safety Patrol Award

Petway Elementary School was the winner of the Sgt. Anthony “Pop” Rossi Annual Safety Patrol Award given annually by the Vineland Police Department.

Christine Hughes won first place for the Amish Report and Valerie Walters won first place for the seat belt safety poster. The school’s co-captain, Patrick Bryant, was the Petway Outstanding Gold Badge Winner of the Year. Advisors Debbie Eisinger and Eric Ruef both said this was a great honor to be selected from all of the Vineland School District’s Patrol Groups.

Students also learned to give back to the community and to participate in global projects. Among the service activities were: holding bake sales, raising funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Tiny Tim Caroling, mailing of cookies, DVD’s, cards, and other gifts to the troops in Iraq, adoption of Audrey the Search and Rescue Blood Hound Dog, Trick or Treat for UNICEF, assisting the Guidance Department with organizing the holiday food baskets for the community, collecting soda can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, and collecting canned soup for the Vineland Soup Kitchen.

Eisinger and Ruef also said through these activities students would understand the importance of taking care of the local community – and beyond --- not just those associated with the school.

The advisors thanked Principal Pat Phillips and Assistant Principal Karen Malatesta and the Petway Staff for their assistance.

Also deserving of recognition were the Vineland Police Department, Detective Brian Pooley and Sergeant Ken Wolfe for honoring the Petway Safety Patrol with this prestigious award, said the advisors.
