Flags Fly at Landis School for Memorial Day
Thanks to donations from faculty members, Landis Intermediate School is flying
American flags on all 21 of the flagpoles in front of the school for Memorial
Day, said Donald Kohaut, principal.
The school will continue the practice on all national holidays.
“At a recent faculty meeting, I said I wanted to initiate a campaign for donations in order to purchase enough American flags so that on important national holidays we would be able to fly U.S. flag on all of the poles in front of the school,” said Kohaut. “In years past, this had been done but many of the flags were in disrepair. In response to my comment, 21 faculty members donated funds to purchase new flags. Mrs. Sally Goode, our librarian and one of the advisors for our flag club, purchased the flags.”
Kohaut said a plaque will be displayed in the school with the names of the staff who donated flags and in whose honor the donations were made.
“The teachers and staff at Landis are proud to be part of this beautiful historic landmark and always want it to be seen in the best light,” said Kohaut.
Earlier this year Congressman Frank Lobiondo donated a large U.S. flag that had flown over the capitol. “This flag now flies on the tallest pole at the front center of the building,” said Kohaut. “I had promised the staff that I would personally make sure the flags were flown on these holidays and they responded beautifully.”
