Egyptology Day at VHS South

Photos of this event

The Vineland High School South Library was magically transformed into a museum for the school’s May 2 Egyptology Day.

This collaborative effort, inspired by the “King Tut Exhibit” currently visiting at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, features contributions from the science, English, and fine art departments.

A highlight of the program was a presentation by Vicki Volpe, science department chairperson, on the “Mummy’s Curse” and the mummification process. Members of Diane Boucher’s ‘Who Dun It’ class presented excerpts from the Egyptian Book of the Dead – mortuary spells that were placed with the dead in order to help them pass through the dangers of the underworld and attain an afterlife of bliss. The “museum” also featured artifacts and genuine fakes specifically related to mummification and body preservation. Also on display were jewelry, fabrics, statues, and mummy related “memorabilia” presented against backdrops designed by Ms. Jana Dandrea’s art classes.

Mrs. Volpe’s presentations were videotaped and will be broadcast on Channel 13 early next week. Check online for updates at: VPS on Channel 13 Schedule
