VHS North Guidance Director Earns Doctorate

Emily Cannon, director of Guidance at Vineland High School North, has earned her Doctor of Education Degree iDr. Emily Cannonn Educational Innovation and Leadership from Wilmington College in Delaware.

Dr. Cannon completed an accelerated program, earning her degree in three and a half years. Overall, her grade-point average was 3.74.

Dr. Cannon was conferred on December 19, 2006 after she successfully defended her dissertation on Teen Pregnancy in an Urban Community in New Jersey: A Teen Perspective. In her dissertation, Dr. Cannon examined the issue from the perspective of teenagers in Vineland Public Schools.

A licensed Family and Adolescent Counselor for the state of New Jersey and a Family Court Mediator, Dr. Cannon also qualified recently for NJ Department of Education certifications as a principal and supervisor.

Dr. Cannon resides in Pittsgrove Township and is the proud mother of a son, Arsean, and grandmother of two grandsons, Deven and Elijah. She said she “looks forward to changing careers in the near future, in order to more fully utilize” her new degree and certifications.
