From Bach to Rock at Winslow School

Winslow School students were captivated by a recent assembly entitled “Bach 2 Rock” performed by Caryn Lin, of Cherry Hill, a classically trained violinist who wStudents leaned about looping by assisting the artist during the performance.ent on to become an electric violin performer and education innovator.Violinist Caryn Lin, of Cherry Hill, NJ.

The performance incorporated the acoustic violin and its origins demonstrated by Lin, performing a simple Bach minuet.  Then, the students were whisked into present day, when Lin used a five and six string electric violin and sound effects. The artist demonstrated   “looping” —creating sound loops live that she adds to and embellishes. It was on the spot recording, creating a virtual orchestra.

Students were given the opportunity to participate and play the instruments and learn more about  looping.

Lin also shared with the students the obstacles she overcame to play the violin and encouraged them to find ways to achieve their goals.
