Thank you for visiting the Principal page on our website. Dane Barse School maintains high academic expectations and standards. We are addressing the state standards in literacy across all grade levels K-5 through the use of a balanced literacy approach to reading, language arts, writing, spelling, listening and speaking. Our math program has been correlated with all core curriculum standards, and is presented to students in a participatory nature. Our science and social studies programs are presented in a laboratory format, and are interrelated thematically with all other subject areas. The health and physical education curriculum, as well as music, library, world language art, Skills for Growing and computer education, reflect the district’s belief that all subject areas should be interrelated and not taught in isolation. “Hands on” instruction, with a heavy emphasis on manipulative and student-driven learning, is a reflection of Barse’s partnership with Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) and is critical to the implementation of our school-wide WSR model, BRAIN (Barse Reaching All Individuals Network).
Our school is involved with many extra-curricular activities, which include scouting, safety patrol, Say Yes to Education, drama productions and community service projects. We proudly recognize our students on our “Wall of Fame”, Student of the Month display, and Kindness Tree, Environmental Garden, as well as with special presentations, general announcements and presentations on Channel 13.
Dane Barse School’s belief in “No Child Left Behind” combines with our belief that all children can, and will learn. Recognizing that different children have different needs, we provide for the array of human learning patterns and utilize the various teaching styles in our effort to reach each child.
In summary Dane Barse Elementary School, working as a family of students, parents, staff and community members, is striving to promote a school environment that is sensitive and caring, where the individual needs of each child are considered and addressed, and where academic excellence is expected. No child is left behind.
