VHS Athletics

The Vineland High School Athletic Department is looking to the future with excitement and optimism, while still rooted in the deep tradition that over 130 years of graduating classes have worked so hard to create.

In our opinion, the State of the Vineland High School Athletic Department is healthy, growing, and always focused on creating great opportunities for our student athletes.

The 2008-09 school year at Vineland High School is surrounded with excitement and optimism. The School will be undergoing a new concept in the way that we present our curriculum to our students with the implementation of Small Learning Communities. As a result of this initiative, Vineland High School will no longer be divided into two high schools by grades 9-10 and 11-12.

When our students return to Vineland High School in September they will be attending either Vineland High School North (previously 9-10) or Vineland High School South (previously 11-12) based on the small learning community that they enrolled in.

The goals of the small learning community set up are many, but one goal that will be an obvious benefit to our students will be the feel that they are part of a smaller learning environment, causing them to be more closely associated with their teachers and administrators.

The Athletic Department at Vineland High School is proud of the accomplishments of the Class of 2008 and eagerly looking forward to the start of the 2008-2009 school year. We are very fortunate to have a talented group of student athletes returning to our teams this year who will be guided by capable and dedicated coaches in every sport.

The staff has been working very hard on schedules for our student-athletes in the seasons Mr. Don Robbins, Athletic Dir.ahead and our focus was directed to three goals:
·   create schedules that are very competitive;
·   place our student-athletes in high profile venues; and
·   schedule our games in a way that will connect our athletic program to the community as much as possible and increase attendance for as many of our contests as possible.

The program is run by Mr. Don Robbins, Supervisor of P.E., Intramurals & Athletics K-12, Telephone (856) 794-6800 ext. 2514

The Athletic Department at Vineland High School takes great pride in the high level of athleticism of the young people on our teams. But we are most proud of the sportsmanship that our student-athletes display while participating in their individual games and meets.

The coaching staff at Vineland High School also devotes a great deal of time and effort into building and continuing their program’s success. It is also a goal of the Athletic Department that we, as a whole, participate in local service projects to give back to the community that has given so much to our student athletes.

This year, the Athletic Department has also further developed the already close working relationship with the school district’s Vineland Public School Broadcasting program, which airs a variety of programming on Channel 9 on the Comcast Cable TV Network.

A new program, “Coach’s Corner”, debuted on Channel 9 this year, providing an in-depth look at each sport through interviews with the coaches.  These half-hour programs were augmented with video and graphics to give viewers as much information as possible about the student athletes and their accomplishments. Often, there is an “Athlete of the Week” award presentation. The program also takes viewers out of the studio to show student-athletes signing college letters of intent, to explain the involvement of the school guidance department, and to provide examples of where and how to access NCAA clearing house data.

In addition to Coach’s Corner, the Athletic Department helped coordinate the robust schedule of programming offered by the staff of VPS Broadcasting, who provide coverage of games and meets in every major sport. All of these broadcasts featured skilled announcers, multiple camera angles, instant replay and advanced graphics. VHS Sports on Channel 9 provides a showcase for the talents of our student-athletes to be shared to a wide audience. More importantly, the tapes and DVD’s of the games and meets were of great value to the athletes pursuing college acceptance and scholarships.

In 2008-2009, the Athletic Department and VPS Broadcasting will again be working together on a daily basis to ensure the greatest possible local TV coverage for our student-athletes.
