What is cross country? Cross Country is distance training and racing. A Cross Country race is typically 3.1 miles over a variety of terrain. Runners are grouped for training by their experience and fitness, and train on trails, in parks, on roads and areas aroung the high school complex. Runners compete with other runners in both small and large meets.
When is Cross Country season? The season runs from late August until early November. Practices are weekly, Monday through Friday, from 2:30-4:45 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9:00-11:00 a.m. There are five Tuesday meets, four Saturday Invitational Meets, and two Frosh/Soph Meets throughout the season. The season concludes with the Conference and Sectional Meets in early November.
Who runs Cross Country? A Cross Country team has motivated, intelligent, hard working members. Everyone is treated equally, Freshman or Senior. Runners on our team are young women, freshmen to seniors, experienced to never having run before, fast or slow, all from different backgrounds. We all come together into ONE BIG FAMILY. In 2008, we had 17 girls on our team.
Why Run Cross Country? Cross Country is a good place to learn something about oneself. We try to prepare our athletes to be healthy, happy and wise. Colleges look favorably on students who have participated in Cross Country because it demonstrates self-discipline and dedication.
When are summer workouts? Cross Country meets at the South Vineland Park, beginning the week of July 13, 2009, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. These are optional evening runs as a team, to get into shape for the season. In August there will be a "Running Camp" held at Parvin State Park --details will be available soon.
Official Practice Date: Official practice begins at 6:30 p.m., on Monday, August 17, 2009 at the high school complex. The team meets by the track scoreboard.
